It's so amazing that on the Merlin bird app this owl has a recording going back to 1956 or something that far back and it sounds crystal clear as it would today, same with the natural background of a night setting in. It's a reminder that nature always stays the same if protected... these sounds could be thousands of years in the future or past as well.

We often get a Great Horned Owl calling, hunting, courting in our back yard. We're in a large city, but there are lots of open fields, including a National Cemetery around us. They sooth me to sleep with their calls.

I've also had owls make a clicking noise while puffing up to posture at me once when I was walking around my property at dusk and came nearly face to face with one on the ground.

I have seen Great Horned owls right across the road on the power line several times. Good thing I'm not a mouse or squirrel.

I hear one in a wooded area in southwestern Virginia. I’ve tried to move around and spot it, but it gets quiet when I get close. It’s usually on a very cold winter night, with a bright moon. Some years, there are two calling to each other. Other years, I can only hear one.

I'm trying to distinguish the sounds of the mourning doves from the couple of great horned owls that live in my Woods. I have a pair. And apparently I've had him a long time cuz I've heard him for a long time just started seeing them this year
