"a bird who wakes up everyday and chooses violence." that is the best description of a canada goose ive ever heard

I used to work with a great horned owl affectionately known as “psycho”. He was actually a sweet heart though.

"A stealth hunter whose eating habits rival those of medieval kings."

Picture a medieval banquet where all the nobles are coughing up pellets.

Crows: exist.

Great Horned Owl: “and I took it personally”.

The “date night” filter and music during the pellet dissection got me

I’ve noticed over the years Corvids tend to chase all birds of prey that come into their territory. Fiercely at that, and for as long as a quarter mile...swooping and pecking. A very smart family of birds.

There was an owl in a park near my house a few years ago that was being attacked by crows. It was sitting in a tree and crows were all perching on the branches above and crapping on it. The next day it was dead on the ground covered in poop.

The way the birb turned when you said they steal nests had me rolling 😭😭

An episode about pigeons would be really cool :) I think it’s interesting how they adapted to urban environments and generally their history with humans.

I used to work at a bird rescue. I was "lucky enough" to find owl pellets every single day lol 😂 was a pretty great job though.

My parents have had a family of great horned owls on their property in Tucson Arizona for the past 30 years. They've got a group of 3 huge palm trees that the owls love, my parents wired several milk crates to the trunks for them to nest in. They've scared the hell out of me at night a few times

Crows also mob other birds of prey. If the bird of prey is similar to the great horned owl’s look, then the crows chase the bird farther. However, if it were to be a Cooper’s hawk or something that has brighter, distinct plumage (that resembles it away from the great horned owl) then the crows only mob it for a while.

Well, one is smarter than the other!

Also, one of them can hold grudges and tell their fellow mates to attack who hurt them

Plus in an event of one of them dying, they hold an autopsy funeral so that they can find out what killed them and what to avoid

Amazing ❤️

Bird suggestion: The humble Black-Capped Chickadee, their brain increases in late summer and fall to remember where all the seeds they hide are. Also so cute with so much attitude.

I've been feeding a 6 or 7 generation "murder" of crows daily for years now b/c I rescue squirrels and they chase the hawks and owls out of my yard. Still waiting for the little shits to bring me a "crow gift, " lol. Though every time I see them chasing one out of the yard, that's truly the best gift I could possibly hope for. And yes, they definitely get extra peanuts when that happens.

I work at a Nature center and we house two Great Horned Owls in our rapture facilities. The female is incredibly cranky (and old, she’s been there since 1998) and always hisses at me when I feed her, and frankly is the raptor I give the most space and respect. Incredible bird!

In the words of Hood Nature (now Casual Geographic):
Owls eat everything including crows, and crows are smart enough to do something about it

I love the tenacity of crows, I live on a farm and we have lots of birds of prey, as well as corvids living on the land. Very often I'll see groups of crows mobbing red kites and buzzards when they get too close to their nests
