I used to work as a security guard, and on the midnight shift at our local power company’s corporate headquarters (former headquarters; the Board of Education uses that building now) I could hear horned owls hooting when I was on outside patrol. The other guards complained about how eerie it was, but I loved them. Now that my mother-in-law has been gone for five years (she had a thing about owls), seeing or hearing an owl is even more special because it’s like a shout-out from her spirit. I always hear this at around 2-3 AM outside my house. So dark and the only thing I can hear is this owl. I hope I can see it one day.
