By the way, these skills don't just apply to games. This applies to development in virtually any field.

"and the artist is just insane". Well. I don't know if the word 'just' is justified, but the artist probably is insane, yes.

I graduated from an computer engineering program and have been doing software development for a few years now, and I still find these tips and pointers (no pun intended) very helpful - Thanks, Extra Creditz!

As an artist,

you kinda need to learn Python if you are going to use Maya or Cinema in their most effective form

Am I the only one who is enjoying programming (I'm 1st year in college) because solving problems in it feels like playing a puzzle video game like portal for example?

Going along with what Daniel said about needing to know math for being a developer, I'm an artist in the industry, and I can safely say you should know some basic math for that as well. With 3d modeling and texturing, you're going to work a lit with coordinates, precise measurements, differing units of measurements, decimals, and when you get into material editing with nodes, they have all sorts of mathematical functions that you should at least have a basic idea of. In short, if you plan to work in the industry for anything, having a fairly solid understanding of math (depending on your title) will help. Don't worry it won't hurt! lol

For anyone doing basic programming, I suggest using text editors. Repl.it and Sublime Text are what I recommend. They will point out your code errors and allow you to test your code on the spot, as well as fixing minor errors like forgetting a squiggly bracket.

Oh man, I love that Battletoads music. You don't hear people talking about it too often, but Battletoads games really had great soundtracks. Except for when they were ripping off Duran Duran.

The fact that my artist brain did not understand any single piece of the code stuff onscreen gave me a newfound admiration for all you number wizards who make the games do the gamey things.

I REALLY want a 'So you want to be an Artist' episode. My sis said that a game would need a BIG pool of people to work together. Especially mainstream ones. But I have no idea how to get into it as an Artist.

Man, sometimes it's scary being a game designer, when it feels like the developers you work with always know more. It's like your only justification for being in a higher paygrade is "i'm older, and think my opinions are great."

I started learning Python for a week or two ago for fun, these videos are basically saying that everything I've enjoyed about learning Python is what is necessary to be a good programmer. I was just doing it for fun, but now I'm actually thinking it might be a job some day. Looks good, man.

YES! Get good at estimating how long it will take you to do things, this is essential for your job. This is well done. I am a programmer (not for games) but this is well done.

basic ui knowledge will be useful not only for game users to have a good game experience, but also to make a good work experience for your coworkers who use your custom tools or level editors.

If there is one thing I know, I am by no means a developer. My job is mostly art. Hell, the prototype of my first game is being made in RMXP. When it comes to programming, my mind scrambles. But I respect the people that can do it and I still found this video to be very informative.
