How bribery was legalized in US politics and how it can still be fixed.

Narration by Noah C
Original music commissioned for this video:

This is my submission to the Equal Citizens #CancelSuperPACs contest.

For anyone wondering what this is, there's a contest being held by Equal Citizens for $50,000 for who can make the best video explaining the law mistake that created Super PACs and how to fix it.

I thought it would be a fun challenge to try making a video for it, so I hope you like it

If you're curious and want to learn more about this, please listen to Lawrence Lessig's podcast 'Another Way', episode title "A Pathway to Regulating SuperPACs"

Someone tagged me on Twitter in this Equal Citizens video contest so I spent the last two weeks making an entry. Don't know if I'll win but it's a good excuse to try making something fun, hope you enjoy!

Let me know if anything's unclear, this is an effort by Harvard law professor Lawrence Lessig to spread awareness and then bring a case to the Supreme Court to overrule the law that created Super PACs

Update: I lost! Did not make the top 3. My video does have more views than every other one in the contest combined though, so I'm glad everyone's enjoyed it!

I love how they keep calling it a mistake even though there's no way this very profitable system for politicians just came about by accident

The fact that companies/corporations are ever viewed as anything other than a big collection of people, and therefore treated as something other than just a bunch of people doing things astonishes me.

“Well no, it’s just called ‘lobbying’. Bribing is when the poor evil bad nations do it.” 🤠

Corporations getting more rights than people is the moment this country failed and we just are riding it out now

Its not a "mistake". This is by design, the system is operating as intended by those who created the system.

I could see a series that breaks down and simplifies loopholes in the legal system becoming very popular. I think it is extremely beneficial for citizens to know and be concerned about these loopholes, and videos like this are immensely helpful in shining light on these issues.

As someone who identifies as a temporarily embarrassed millionaire, this is a moral and just system and we definitely should not get rid of it!

I would LOVE a series of this style, just breaking down other corrupt bills/acts

Those aren't mistakes or oversights, they are deliberate loopholes

Here in the UK we just pay our politicians hundreds of thousands of pounds to make speeches (like a second job) and if they happen pass policies that make us rich, well thats just a coincidence.

All it takes is for the legal system to drop the ball once and you're stuck in a corrupt system forever
