I'm your host, Darren Van Dam!

Here are my tips for finding the best movies on Prime Video. The Prime Video user interface is one of the most clumsy among all the major streaming services which can often leave you feeling like there aren't many movies included with Prime Video to choose from. My tips might not be the fastest way to find good movies on Amazon Prime Video but it's the best way to find good movies for you.

Tired of looking for good movies to watch on Netflix, Amazon Prime or other streaming services? Every week I recommend a handful of the best movies on Netflix, Amazon, HBO etc. so my subscribers never run out of good movies to watch on streaming. Spending 10 minutes watching one of my videos could save you hours of searching, hours that you could otherwise spend watching good movies on streaming that you otherwise might not have ever watched or even known about.

Thanks for watching!

I always end up down a rabbit hole when I start doing these things... which almost always ends up finding a new cool movie I never knew about. Thanks DVD!

I've had Prime forever and still learned a thing or two from this video. Thanks Darren!

I don’t see many people talk about it but “A Taxi Driver” 2017 is an amazing Korean film that’s on Prime atm

The filter feature in the IMDb app has been very helpful to find movies in my watchlist.

What gets me about this service is that even though one pays for membership one still has to pay for many films.

Darren thank you for this. Really helpful, especially with you breaking it down for people who aren't use to Prime. I have Shudder, Starz, Cinemax, and IMBD TV. Great edit with the Law and Order thrown in for each step. You're the man Darren. It's why this is one of my favorite channels on YouTube. Thank you.

Also, sorry one more gripe, on the Movie home page, why oh why can they not just put the newly added films right at the top!? I'm a movie junkie so I'm usually looking for all the new films added across all the streaming platforms but Prime buries this category somewhere down the page after rentals, shudder, etc...

After viewing a film I always go to the top of the "customers also watched". I find a vast library of older gems and lesser known gems. Their library is immense.

Kudos. Just tried it out, and it's the first time in years since I've been able to find so much content, and so quickly. Top marks. Your channels just keep getting better. Early on I wasn't loving as many of your recommended movies, but as time wore on, I found you would have 3-4 movies I really loved, and by giving the other titles on your list a chance, came to look for your content regularly. Hardcore Henry kept popping up in my recommended movies over and over, and I just didn't think it sounded like my kind of thing. But I saw it listed on your channel for recommendations, and so I took a chance on it. I loved it. Definitely not conventional filming, but amazing and the biggest surprise was the plot, and Sharlto Copley, who I've seen in District 9 and Open Grave, both movies I highly recommend. Anyway, thanks for the tips. I have my weekend viewing to curate. Those of us who love good cinema know that life is far too short to waste it on bad movies. Below is my rant about Prime's terrible interface for finding content.

I get frustrated to death with Prime. I learned the Netflix hack years ago, just because I love to build my Q. Prime is just frustrating. It's just not friendly when it comes to browsing. I get the same movies recommended over and over. Even filtering Movies, Horror and I feel like I get maybe 40 titles. When they were first offering their streaming service I feel like their platform was so much easier to search. I had the Roku box when if first came out. When I searched Prime using Roku, I had a HUGE amount of choices. Then Amazon moved away from Roku as their Fire Stick or whatever it was called I seemed to lose the ability to see more than 1% of the offerings. Of all the streaming services, Prime drives me crazy.

I'm a big believer of NOT putting all my eggs in one basket. All my movie channels are added to my Sling TV service. If I recall, Amazon had just a few channels listed under their Starz subscription, but I have probably around a dozen with Sling TV's subscription. Or maybe it was Showtime... but you get my meaning. Sometimes it's nice to flip through Blank, and blank West, and Blank Extreme, Blank Classics, Blank Westerns... without having to scroll through the On Demand section. BTW, The Abyss is on Epix Drive-In right now, which is included with my package (not the other Epix channels, just the Drive-In).

Also, I've had Prime for a while and I don't recall a free weekend of any channel, but Sling TV operates like the cable or satellite companies and gives you free weekends or a week of a channel now and then. No sign up trial period and have to cancel in seven days, free. Free free free.

But anyway... what I would like to know is how the algorithm works?
For instance, I watched a really lousy movie a few days ago. It was on Prime or Netflix. But I love the genre.
So what do I do? If I rate it poorly will it affect recommending that genre? So maybe I am missing out by not rating movies, but I don't want to lose any recommendations.

And has anyone else noticed how the IMDB channel, free on Prime, has gone from a few commercials to competing with IFC and AMC on who can turn a 100 minute movie into a whole afternoon?

This some serious good info! I always think Amazon has a bad interface search for movies!

Here is an tip for all you movie buffs that use a browser. Whether it is Netflix or Amazon Prime etc. Depending on what browser you use ( I use Chrome, which has this great feature ) instead of scrolling all the way down to find a certain word, just use the browser search function. In Chrome hit Ctrl + 'F' and just enter your text that you are looking for. So for instance type in 'Crime Movies' ( once you are in the correct window ) and your page will jump to this location, instead of scrolling ( as Van Dam keeps mentioning! ) all the way down. Hope this is of some help to all you movie buffs

I totally agree about the interface. I consider Amazon Prime Video better than Netflix, but they really make you work for the gems you find.

I cannot access watch history on my Roku device or smartphone app, so I'm unable to delete the movies I watched but did not like.

But my #1 tool for selecting films from Prime is the IMDB rating. I never select a movie with an IMDB rating below 6.0, and rarely watch one rated below 6.5.
