Obsessive compulsive disorder (or OCD) has become a colloquial term in the modern world. If your friend likes to have a clean apartment, you call them OCD. If your colleague doesn’t like dirty hands, you call them OCD.

But the reality is that OCD, is a distressing and sometimes life-long psychiatric illness, which causes significant disruption to the lives of those who are affected, to the extent that they are often unable to function when things are in order.
