I started less than a year ago when I decided that it was better to invest in realestate instead of making extra payments to my student loans. I do invest a 401k but only because my employers 80% matching. I belive the tax break for 401k's is an illusion especiall if you are retireing at the highest tax bracket. They may not tax it when you put it in but they tax it as regular income when you pull it out. I try to save over 3000 per month in a savings account and use that money to buy real estate. I have one rental I bought last year and I am working on a second now which I plan to turn into a short term rental to see if I get a better Cash on Cash return.
