Following your checklist, I was able to eliminate all possibilities except #6 - failed control board. Sure enough, when I pulled the board out and inspected it closely, one of its tiny components had been deep-fried. Thirty minutes later after a trip to a local supply house, the blower was running normally again. Fixing problems like this can be simple; identifying what needs fixing is where expertise like yours is so valuable. Many, many thanks for sharing!

After too many hours of youtube to admit, I still haven't solved my problem. But this is by far the most informative video I've seen, thank you very much!

Passed my EPA 608 Cert. and moved into our HVAC group. Just bought your book and appreciate your detailed descriptions. It’s good to a newbie like me. Cheers!

Why would anyone give this video a thumbs down? You couldn’t find a better video explaining what could be wrong with your blower. People hate for no reason other than to be ignorant.

SIR - You are God Send Help. THANK YOU A MILLION AND I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU.
My situation was the Inside Air Handler or Evaporator Blower motor wouldn't turn on, while the outside compressor condensing unit will turn on. I was afraid that the air handler motor /Capacitor / relay would be the culprit and perhaps even the controller board. I have changed the motor / cap and relay on the condensing unit but never messed with the Air Handler Blower or the inside unit and was dreading it. Your Video saved me from no telling what kind of an expensive ride I would have had with those AC repair service surprises. Mine is a 35 year old Goodman unit and probably doesn't have the ECM etc since it is a single speed motor. I watched your video in full and was going to go step by step. I followed Step 7 (the thermostat) first since it was easy and never knew thermostat could cause an issue while allowing the condensing unit to come on. I removed the Battery, measured the voltage was reading 1.334 and was hoping a new BATT would help. Guess what i put a new battery and the Fan handler came on and the AC is working now. Never realized that thermostat showing to be in working shape could cause this. May God Bless you for your Great Service and Once again a Big Thanks to you and you are TRULY GOD SEND HELP.
One question sir - Is it normal for the condensing unit to come on first and the Air handler fan to turn on after a 25 second delay. I dont think it was like this before. Is this some symptom of some thing coming... Thank You.

Wow. Thorough is an understatement. If I spent a few hundred hours on this channel I might never need a tech service call.

Very very helpful (understatement of the year) . You helped me narrow down what was going on with my blower motor. It was a bad thermistor in my ECM. You easily saved me a grand or 2!

You got my attention at 8:50 with your yellow magnetic jumper wire. Never seen these anywhere before and I see Amazon has them. I troubleshoot a lot of industrial machinery and with most of the terminal strips there is no way to attach a meter lead and a person only has two hands. I was going to make some of these leads and bought and received some small neodymium magnets. Another thing is why a person should use a bleeder resistor instead of a screwdriver to discharge a capacitor is because some capacitors have an internal fuse and if you use a screwdriver you run the chance of blowing the fuse besides blowing the tip off of your screwdriver. Great job.

A note on the thermostat face: after I changed my batteries, I still had to jump one of the connections before the face could become functional again. I also tested my cap, it was on the lower end of its capacitance rating, but I wonder if draining it and putting it back did something as well… one of my EE coworkers recommended I try that specifically.

Anyway, thanks for the awesome video!!

Whew! It was the thermostat batteries. This just happened tonight. I heard the burner ignite and the gas flow but noticed the fan didn’t start a few minutes later like it normally does. I turned off the heat and turned on the fan and nothing. I’m thinking the fan motor is shot or maybe the capacitor. Did a quick YT search and found your video. I never would have thought of the thermostat batteries. The display did not show the BATT indicator. I replaced the batteries and the fan is working. Thank you.

Thanks. By testing my blower motor resistance and not seeing/smelling any indication of burning, and noticing the motor turned freely I purchased a new control board and that fixed the problem!
