This is where Mystique's story should have ended. With her choosing peace over revenge. Giving her such a huge role in the next two movies was amongst the biggest mistakes of Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

This is still the most emotionally effective scene in the movie
I was always in tears watching this even in the theater
Mystique has a choice to make but she doesn’t know the gravity of it affecting so many lives in the future
And seeing these beloved characters getting killed by the Sentinels nearly broke me afraid this was actually the end of them
I like Charles kept thinking, “Raven, please stop! So we don’t have to suffer a future we won’t survive.”

I never noticed that when Charles projects his voice and image to Raven he looks and sounds less injured than what he actually is. Like the pain in his voice and the blood is more potent when it cuts to him under the rubble than when he is talking to Raven. I found that so interesting.
