Erik isn't just talking about Charles' many attempts to convince him of his ways, he's talking about the politics of the time shortly before the holocaust... what's even more heartbreaking is, most of the films, Magneto's right

I have to give Magneto SOME credit with his plan in this movie. Turning all humans into a mutant is more honorable than just killing them all like he tries to do in the sequels.

I never realized the first time I saw this that Magneto in X-Men was the same actor who played Gandalf in Lord Of The Rings. He's so different as a villain, cold and unforgiving but you can kind of empathize with him too. He's a dignified guy who's just had enough and refuses to take any more crap.

I love how McKellen delivers the line "don't get in my way". There's a threat there of course, but it sounds almost pleading, conveying that he really doesn't want to fight Charles.

Ive always loved these two because of how they personified MLK and Malcolm X and how they are always working towards the same goal but with different methods. magneto was never a villain he was just not a pacifist. and without him Charles could never have existed.

So much character depth in such a few lines. You saw the friendship, respect, regret for being in opposite sides, and adversarial nature based on ideology all in a minute and 14 seconds. Eric's comment to not get in his way was delivered perfectly. It was a threat, statement of commitment, and a heartfelt plea to his friend so they would not have to fight. Masterful acting to bring 2 fan favorites to life. Bravo!
