You can see Eriks expression change the moment Charles says "they're just following orders."

Stan Lee’s decision to have a Holocaust survivor be one of his setting’s most powerful and compelling antagonists is truly one of the greatest character/narrative choices in modern literature. Gives me chills every time.

The fact that Magneto immediately stop what he doing when Charles get hurt is touching as in the end he still couldn’t not care bout his only friend in this world

Despite Erik’s cold, relentless wrath, and despite him and Charles being totally at odds ideologically, the one thing that distracted Erik from his vengeance was the realization that he had hurt perhaps his only true friend.

The guy is a Holocaust survivor, Charles! Those were very poor choice of words

Of all the things you shouldn't say to a very pissed off Holocaust survivor holding a small army's worth of missiles at his command, "Just following orders" is right at the top of the list.

The scene where Magneto stops all the missiles mid flight and turned them all back at the fleet was one of the coolest scenes ever.

Magneto was right all along.
The mutants did not start a war against the humans, the humans started a war against the mutants in every possible way until they killed all the X-Men.

Fantastic film.
The entire beach scene at the end is really a grand metaphor for the Mutant cause.
Man and Mutant fighting out of fear, innocents get hurt. Resentment stokes, do it all again and repeat.
Until...

This movie is, without a doubt, one of the best superhero movies of all time.

2:55 “They’re just men following orders”

Uhh… Charles… that is the *ABSOLUTE* *WORST* *THING* you could say to someone with Magneto’s history!

"Never again" not just an awesome line, but the ACTUAL Holocaust Slogan. Fantastic delivery, awesome research, good accuracy (with some exceptions) to history, and great directing as well as editing, what's not to live about this scene or this movie? 👍👏👏👏

What I love about this sequence is that Marvel wasn't afraid to prove one of its most intelligent characters completely and utterly wrong. Xavier spent virtually the entire movie preaching to Erik about how killing Shaw would not bring him peace, and how he had to let it go. Instead, killing Shaw is so cathartic for Erik that it almost directly unlocks full access to his power. And as Erik gently floats to the ground, supported by his own fully realized powers of magnetism, the shock on Professor X's face makes it clear that this is an outcome he never contemplated.

Charles is arguably the smartest of them all and yet he’s the one who says the *WORST* possible thing one can say to a person who has suffered persecution and witnessed genocide first hand carried by people who justify it as simply “following orders” while taking pride and pleasure in it and avoiding justice at all cost!

He honestly thought Erik would relent after giving that justification?

Great chemistry between McAvoy and Fassbender. They both acted so well in this movie. Magneto certainly wasn't going to follow his friend's orders.

Magneto protected an island from a buster call, well done.

It is really one of those situations where there can't be true peace, humans can't live under fear, and mutants can't be asked to not use their power for their own benefit. War is inevitable and while nature selected mutants as the next step in evolution, but the human mind can more than compensate for that (eventual creation of sentinels or gene therapy in Logan)
