Expanding a Rib With a M1 Increase

The is a useful method of subtly enlarging a 2 x 2 rib. A 'make one' increase is used between pairs of stitches to change 2 knits to 3 knits without disturbing the sides of the ribs. The M1 may be made knitwise or purlwise, with or without a twist. This technique is useful at cuff edges and sock tops.

Thank you for this! It seems very straight-forward and easy. I'm new-ish to knitting - so "simple" is great for me. I believe this will be perfect for what I'm making. I'm expecting that I can continue the increases every few rows and make my narrow 2x2 rib scarf bulge in the middle so as to be a sort of hat/scarf? Why not? Makes sense to me, ha?! But, we'll see? I'm going to try it based on your very nice explanation/demo. The mystery / experiment will be fun. Thank you!

The wool you are using doesn’t make it very easy to see stitches
