My FAVORITE fishing gear:

(Above are affiliate links from the video! I earn a small commission from these, feel free to just search them from Amazon if you would prefer! 😎)

This video will teach you how to tie possibly one of the best fishing knot for heavy monofilament or fluorocarbon line, the Centauri Knot (as a bonus, we will also go over when NOT to use this knot!) This is one of the most widely used fishing knots when tying heavy line (mono or flouro!) and can be used to catch anything from trout, perch, salmon, red snapper, tuna, mackerel... basically anything you catch with a hook can be caught using this knot! It doesn't get easier. Subscribe for more knots and tips, and thanks for watching!

Quick disclaimer: This is but one of many methods to successfully tie this knot, and it happens to be the best one I have found! I hope it works equally well for you, but if it doesn't, or if you have found something else that works better, I encourage you to stick to what works for you! I would always recommend practicing the knots and testing their strength yourself to ensure you are comfortable with how they work, and to avoid flinging lures into the ocean on a failed knot (ask me how I know!). Knots take practice, so make sure you're comfortable with whatever you're tying prior to trusting it with your gear! If you have any questions about the knot, please post them below and I will do my best to answer them. I hope this is helpful, and tight lines!

This is the knot we used when rock climbing. The main knot was a figure 8 then the tag of the figure 8 got tied into the knot you demonstrated.

I'll give this a try. I just learned the tuna knot last night but it takes a lot of force to set well.

I might use the figure 8 for jigs which need a lot of action.

Thanks for the video I really like the live bait 😂🤙

Well tied and well explained. It resembles a nail knot/tube knot without the nail/tube. I'll certainly use it. Thanks.

I have to be honest here: I watch a lot of knot vids. I think this is hands down the best Centauri knot video that I've come across so far

Your steps are exactly what I follow with a few tweaks to make the cinching simple with 150# fluro. I use pliers on the tag end for the final cinching down, and use a Thirty Fathoms Knot Puller (tweaked by adding a snap & split ring to cover fresh water sizes). The knot has never failed me.

While learning it, I had to make it a point where I pinch the knot. That was part of the learning curve. Before starting to cinch it really mattered that the tag end is on top of the loops & the main line is on the bottom so they run sorta parallel to each other...observing it helped me get them almost flawlessly completed...Uber strong knots!

Excellent video! ...Uber strong knots!

You should always pull the tag to tighten, then a double loop knot to finish

Polomar knot is the way to go. So simple so strong.

I use this knot for all my fishing. If you pull the line through a fly wich has an upward or downward bendt hookeye, make a loop and tie the knot, you can pull the knot to the fly and pull the loop over the fly. Pull tight. It is way better than thurle and double thurle.

Great knot. Interested to know if this is stronger than a Palomar knot. Palomar hasn’t failed me yet with 60lb fluorocarbon. 😊

Is this knot good for tuna of all sizes? I normally use the Palomar knot and with the jigs i have for tuna. A good amount of mono leader line is connected with an FG knot

Does that work with braid as well tying directly to the lure? Will it slip?

Can you tie this knot going thru the eye twice and then completing the knot as described?
