Book Tarzan is a true savage. He won't tolerate nonsense, loves to learn, and really wants to just enjoy his life in Africa. And somehow became immortal? Like...WHAT!? I'm going to the series after I finish Burroughs' John Carter and Carson Napier series

Disney did Clayton so dirty. He's not a villian, he just had the bad luck of being Tarzan's hapless, less interesting cousin. Also Edgar Rice Burroughs has a habit of making you want to read the next book in the series by ending each book on a cliffhanger. You have to read the first two books to get the complete Tarzan original story. The same happens with the John Carter of Mars series.

One thing to note was that Tarzan was also a Pulp character, originating in a series of books later adapted to comics in the American Platinum Age's ending. And if you've read hero pulps from back in the 1900's, you KNOW those mad bastards don't mess around. The Shadow, Doc Savage, Solomon Kane, Conan The Barbarian, Zorro, etc. They go DARK while still having their exciting fun air maintained.

As a kid, I never realized Clayton got hanged because I was so focused on the knife/machete. So I always assumed he got stabbed by it...which may be somewhat worse😂

There were a few girls at my HS who loved Tarzan b/c they wanted him to...go animal on them...and they got made fun of into oblivion. But b/c the jokes were inappropriate, teachers cracked down on anything Tarzan. It was short lived, but a few hs girls got the Tarzan topic banned b/c they were hitting puberty lol.

Actually in the books Tarzan was not kicked out of the pride. He became the leader. He did protect Jane and them from danger. But when help came they took it and left Jane wanted to see Tarzan and get him to come with them. But Clayton convinced them to leave him. He later left his pride to try to find them and then he met a man. Who ended up helping him find out who he was. Then Tarzan takes a journey to find Jane. End of book one .
