From the moment Arya arrived to train at the House of Black and White, the Waif seemed determined to break her down, both physically and mentally. Brutal combat, emotional torture, and rage swirl between these two as they battle to get the upper hand on each other. #GameOfThrones

A lot of people in the comments see the waif as a mentor but i always perceived her as another student that was competing with Arya.

She fought a blind girl....but didn't think to fight blind.

The Waif revealing herself after wounding Arya shows exactly her "weakness". She too feels like she's someone and not a no one, cause she wanted to tell Arya "Look at me. It was ME who killed you, not just a random old lady". That's not how a real no one would think nor would act.
As a matter of fact, it's exactly what Arya does later when killing Frey.

The whole faceless man thing was the most interesting thing in my opinion. I loved it.

Jaqens smile in the end meant the training worked and In order to find out who she was she needed to become no one.

Theory: The Waif had become a mentally unstable and fanatical follower of the Many Faced God. She hated Arya so much because she knew that she was just using the Faceless Men to get the training she needed to kill the people on her list, and would leave the order once she got what she needed. To The Waif, this was an insult to her order and blasphemy, and she wanted Arya dead for it.

In reality, the Many Faced God was far more offended by The Waif's devotion, gatekeeping, and sadism, than by Arya's refusal to give up her true identity. To him, Arya was never a true Faceless Man, because she never stopped being Arya. Since she wasn't part of his cult she could not blaspheme against and him. This is why she was merely punished, instead of killed, when she "stole" Meryn Trant from him. But The Waif WAS at some point truly a "No One, " who had fallen away and become a "someone" again, by becoming too obsessed with their religion, by holding a personal grudge against Arya, and by her sadistic enjoyment of suffering. She wasn't "playing" The Waif anymore, she had really become The Waif.

The Faceless aren't butchers; they do have their own set of moral codes. They will kill innocent or undeserving people, but they usually charge steep and often bizarre prices to do so, and sometimes they even refuse contracts. They often attempt to kill their victims quickly and painlessly. They are also very compassionate to the sick and dying, offering a way to end their lives easily and caring for their bodies after they die.

Jaqen H'gar was an ideal worshiper of the Many Faced God: He did not fanatically follow their religion, he didn't gatekeep, he wasn't angry that Arya was attempting to use them, he didn't hold any strong opinions one way or the other, he was kind and compassionate without motive, he respected other people as equals, he took life without pleasure in it. So he was used by the Many Faced God to correct The Waif's path. Jaqen pitted Arya and The Waif against each other, to teach The Waif that obsession, ego, rage, cruelty and fanatical obsession to The Many Faced God was the true blasphemy. Or to kill her in trying.

Is the person who was The Waif truly dead? Maybe. Maybe not. We saw "Jaqen H'gar" drink poison and "survive." Is he the original Jaqen? Or did another Faceless simply take his mask and step into his shoes? Perhaps the Faceless never really die, they just lose their favorite mask and get demoted to new identities. Or maybe the person playing The Waif really was killed, and her mask put on the wall like a retired jersey, and she's now doing time in whatever afterlife the Many Faced God provides for his people...

1:11 "are you sure you're not forgetting someone?"

What, did you want to be on her list? You end up being crossed off of it later 🤭

I never understood why she hated arya so much it didnt feel like a teacher genuinely trying to teach a new student the ways of their organization it always felt personal like she know her from before

3:15 the waif goes full psycho robot mode from here. Before I just saw her as a ruthless mentor, but when Arya spared the other lady, the waif went full t-1000.

The waif certainly taught Arya a thing or two about fighting, although Arya never had to do any boxing.

Arya = my favourite GOT's character.

Unpopular opinion, but I really enjoyed the Waif as a character? She was like a really unique villainous mentor. I don't know if I've ever seen a character quite like her. I loved how robotic she was in a medieval world, too. I just wish this plot was fleshed out a bit more so that the Waif's character could be even stronger.

I wish I saw how Needle plunged through the Waif's eyes. This would have been perfect.

"finally a girl is no one". Why? What does that mean? Why does killing the Waif make Arya "no one"? This whole plot made zero sense.

So the Waif killed Aria and was acting under her face for the rest of the series.

At some point, the news of Arya's defeat of the Night King would have reached Braavos. I've often wondered about how Jaqen H'Ghar would react when he heard...

She was jealous from day one. Her 'training' was spiteful from the start. She was there first and then comes this highborn girl, one he took special interest in. Constantly calling Arya lovely girl, and being forgiving when Arya made mistakes. Yeah the waif was green with envy and hated that someone prettier, smarter, and noble born had the nerve to come into her territory. Was so glad when she died, I disliked the character.
Would like to say she was simply following orders but got to argue that point. If she was all about listening to Jacqen she would have done as he told. He said 'make sure she doesn't suffer'. She stabbed Arya in the stomach instead of slicing her throat. She meant for Arya's death to be slow and painful. This alone proved that her actions went beyond the Faceless and emotions ruled her hands. Arya should have carved out her lady parts and placed it in his bed, because she was acting like a jealous lover.
