To be fair, the Bulgarians were conquered by the Byzantines from 1018-1185 and then by the Ottomans from 1396-1878. They haven't been continuously a state since 681.

Here are ten other things you didn't know about Bulgarians:
1. The most ancient and officially recognized by UNESCO as the most accurate calendar is that of the ancient Bulgarians from 4768 BC, which later served to create the Chinese calendar.
2. The creation of the first Bulgarian state dates from Chinese chronology in 2137 BC. In written sources of the ancient Chinese chroniclers Shi-tzi, Qian-han-shu, Bei-shi, Hou-han-shu, Sui-shu, Tang-shu, etc. it is claimed that in the 4th millennium BC. Bulgarians gradually formed as a community in the valley of the Tarim River and the mountains around it in northern China.
3. The first passenger plane was built by a Bulgarian - Asen Yordanov.
4. The automatic gearbox that most people in the world use today is the work of Rumen Antonov.
5. The answering machine was discovered and constructed by the aforementioned Asen Yordanov.

Two Bulgarians in a car are stopped at a police checkpoint, the cop leans into the vehicle and says "we're looking for two rapists" The Bulgarians look at each other, and then turn back to the cop and say "we'll do it"

I like the first visit of Bulgaria was in 1987 in Aheloy, spending 3 weeks in children's camp -having nice time there and having breakfast lunch and dinner at Aheloyska Bitka restaurant, and having excellent "sladoled" ( ice cream)every day - 5 storinki per coop😂...
Since then I visited Bulgaria couple of times👍

Here’s another fun fact: Simeon the II, the last Tsar of Bulgaria, was an absolute CHAD with his life history. His father, Boris the III, had unexpectedly died in 1943, making Simeon the last Tsar in Bulgaria, at just 6 years old! Of course, the Bulgarian government didn’t accept the nation being run by a 6 year old, so they removed him as Tsar. After WWII, Simeon and the Royal Family was kicked out of Bulgaria, but after 50 years in exile, Simeon returned back to his home country. Somehow, he actually got elected as Prime Minster again! One of just a few people to both lead as a monarch, and an elected official. Thanks Hoi4 for teaching me this!

As an extra fact: Simeon is the last Hoi4 leader still living today

When I was younger my best friend was Bulgarian and his grandfather was Venelin Ganev, regent to Tsar Simeon II from 1944-1946. I stayed in his house in Sofia it was super cool!

Bugger- French.
Burglar-German.
Vulgar-Latin.
All of those derogatory terms come from medieval days when the bulgarian heretical movement, the Bogomils, moved to western Europe after they were chased away by the church authorities in Bulgaria and the Roman empire. In Italy, they were known as Bugri, but they were most popularly known as the French word for them: Catars.
Calling names to the heretics was normal back then, and our name became a byword for any kind of bad people.

For colours of bulgarian flag is more acurate to say that: The white represent the peace and prosperity. The green simbolise, the great mountains and nature that we have. And the red is to honored all of the brave, mighty mans that spill their blood and sacriface themselfs in the name of Bulgaria and for that to be free and independent agen!
