I've lived in Maine my whole life and this video is a joke. Most Mainers wouldn't be able to afford to live in these areas, and most of the properties in these towns are owned by people who don't even live in Maine. Normal everyday folks don't live in Belfast, Cape Elizabeth, or York. They live in Portland (maybe), Brunswick, Auburn, central Maine, or in the areas in between.

Maine seems a good place to live.
I live in Switzerland, but I'm fed up with the crime here and the blockhead mentality of "everything is allright".
I really am looking for an alternative, in a more peaceful place, and maine seems to be the right spot.

I live in Maine. So many other choices to live. But no matter where you live Maine is expensive to live in and you have to be of the hearty sort to live here. Winter is rough and driving can be treacherous.

If you actually want to move to Maine, I wouldn't live in most of these towns (unless you're rich). Portland's good if you want job opportunities but again, it will be pricey. I would recommend moving to little towns near these bigger cities where it's cheaper but you're close enough to drive for work or day trips. Some example towns would be Saco, Gorham, Bangor, Lewiston, Westbrook, and South Portland instead of Portland just to name a few. Definitely do some research. Safety is great, along with good schools but job opportunities and pricing are also just as important.

"If you move here you should prepare for all of the tourists the flock here" - should be said about pretty much every coastal town in Maine. Also nice to see my house shown in this video a couple times :P

Oh dear. What a bazaar, misleading composite of 10 small towns squished together on the southern coast of Maine
my goodness
how odd
This naïve limited list has nothing to do with living in Maine at all.

This person is mixing up Kennebunkport and Kennebunk, which ARE NOT the same town. Mother's Beach is in Kennebunk.

I wouldn't call Scarborough rural anymore. It has a 4 lanes of Rt 1 through it.

For people who enjoy the outdoors in all seasons, how is Orono for raising a family? Portland seems nice but we don't care enough about breweries and restaurants to justify how busy and expensive it is there. On the other hand we don't want to live too isolated and quality schools are a significant variable. Orono is closer to good hiking, camping and skiing which is a huge bonus.

Kinda tough to take this seriously. A little fact checking goes a long way. A number of the towns on the list are in a crisis for lack of affordable housing, averages be damned. A tiny bit of knowledge of local geography would help, as well. I live in Kennebunk, a few miles from the beaches shown and named. That's KENNEBUNK. Not K'PORT😅

I’ve been wanting to move to Maine for several years now. From Cincinnati. Hope to visit in the near future. Beautiful state. Any suggestions for a decent place to live for a blue collar guy with a modest living? Just curious

The statistics about the cost of living in Bar Harbor in this video are laughable. If you are really lucky you might be able to find a house to buy in Bar Harbor for $500K-$600K, but there are more homes listed for over a million that such cheap houses. Renting there is simply impossible because virtually all houses in the rental market rent by the day or week. Yes you can find a rental in Bar Harbor for $800 a night. The economy there is totally seasonal due to the 4 million plus tourists that come in the summer. Although there are about 100 restaurants in Bar Harbor, you can count the places that are open year round on one hand. Bar Harbor is a tourist town. Yes it is a beautiful place, but unless you love crowds for 6 months of the year, you won't enjoy living there. How do I know these things? Well I live on Mount Desert Island and visit Bar Harbor frequently (I was there twice this week).

Most of Scarborough has marsh land...hence MOSQUITOS!! I grew up in Portland and Scarborough would not be my first choice, unless you're on the north side of Rte 1. Bar Harbor is great if you're wealthy. And....in summer you can't get in or out...too much traffic...Cape Elizabeth is also pricey...very high house costs and high taxes...Cumberland is nice but, again, try finding an affordable property. My sister and hubby lived here for 40-50 years but that was when it was still affordable. All these towns mentioned here are very pricey. As well, due to the DHS in Maine, migrants have been coming into the state in groves...lots of homelessness, especially Portland area.

This was informative. Im looking at moving up there around the summer of '24. Thankfully finding a job won't be difficult as the company I work for has locations all over the state, some of which have multiple job postings. So for me it's just a matter of picking a place, saving the money and making the necessary arrangements.

Is there another list for towns more inland in Maine? Everyone of the top 10, except Rangeley, is along the coast. I feel that has to be some better options besides coastal towns. I have been looking to relocate to the Bangor area.

I want to live in Houlton. Affordable homes, good solid American values.
