I did the test to be able to share genetic information with my kids in the future. My kids are under 3, we have a lot of time. I wanted more info, so I got my dad one for his birthday a few months later. Imagine our surprise to find out we are not related. I just sent a test to the man who may be my father. I'm 35, we aren't trying to get child support. We just want answers. So I'm glad we are going this route.

I took the test this past February and received the results back the first week of March. I have a son I didn't know about for 41 years plus I'm a grandfather and father-in-law.👀 Imagine my surprise!

Ancestry DNA confirmed what my Mother told me - which was the name of my biological father. It was confirmed only by cousins that showed up in my DNA results.

There was a CSI episode where a rapist was a chimera, so their sperm DNA was different from their mouth DNA. That happens when non-identical twins merge in the womb into a single individual. I don't know how common it is, but that would cause the father to show up as an uncle.

A friend of mine was adopted. She took a DNA test and found a 24% match. The match was not old enough to be a grandparent. A family tree was found. Father identified. Not a legal preceding, but truth was found.

New, yes this is what I read today, Consumer genetics and genealogy company Ancestry announced a new feature, called SideView, that will give customers information about which bits of their DNA — and which parts of their ethnicity — were inherited from each parent. The tool can do that without having genetic information from the parents, which Ancestry says is a first in the industry.

My guess is that no, it can't identify a father but aids in narrowing down who the father might be! I had a male, 42 yrs old contact me, he wanted to prove through DNA that my mother's brother was his father. This uncle just so happens, took a DNA test in 2017, and I manage his kit. My uncle's daughter also took a DNA test in 2019, I manage that one also, she's a maternal 1st cousin to me. The 42 year old male's DNA results came back with over 3400 cM of shared DNA with my uncle and and over 1700 cM with my uncle's daughter. This 42 year old male is indeed my uncle's son, and he is a half brother to my uncle's daughter, and he is 1st cousin to me. In this case, everyone who needed to take a test had already done so, and it was more to prove paternity rather than identify a father.

Yes cause that's how I found out who my sons dad was! I got him a DNA test and it linked him to his family that was on there...also the reason was me and his father had split up and I was dating someone else and didn't even know I was pregnant for four months.

Can you tell the father of 2 half siblings if the father has passed away ?

How can I determine if a match is a half sibling or an uncle? I have two possibilities for a father but they are father and son. The only other close relative that has tested is another son. We share roughly 30% DNA. He is also related on the maternal side.

I tested my dog! Not with Ancestry of course. They might not find it as amusing as I would. LOL! And yes, she’s a very mixed breed.

As for custody, it should if been brought up that the "ancestry" test can tell the possible father if the should bother going through the court paternity test. Going through the court for dna likely will take years and cost thousands of dollars. The man would be at odds with the women. The women would not get the child support until it is all sorted out. For $40-$90 they can figure it out outside of court. If it is still protested after that go to court already knowing the answer and win.

I never met my father or knew him but if I took the test by myself will it tell me who it is? I know his first name but nothing else.

If I submit an Ancestry DNA test for both myself and my father at the same, that should confirm paternity correct?

Can I get my DNA done if my father has passed away?

Interesting except for the fact that it didn't say a thing about how a DNA comparison would say "Yes or No" to the question of paternity. The fact that just Ancestry tests would not prevail in court doesn't rule them out as reason for a court to order the legally required procedures. Tho courts don't always follow science.

My grandmother has an ancestor on her direct paternal line who came over from Europe with his grandparents. I know who his grandparents are, who his wife, and who his children are. But we have no clue who his parents are. How do I use her paternal matches to find them?
