"It is limited not only by its own military capacity, which I think its probably less sophisticated than than it presented, but also because it's sitting on a population that it knows is not in favour of any sort of war with Israel."

Professor Ali Ansari and Times Radio's Andrew Neil discuss Iran's limited military options.

Most people on the demonstration in Tehran looked over 50. The majority of the Iranian people are too young to remember the revolution and hate their government.

Interesting crowd of supporters. 99.9% old men, plus a segregated bunch of women, hardly widespread support.

How can Iran lose with all those flags waving and fists punching the air? There have been American and Israeli flags painted on sheets set ablaze. And the leaders speak directly to God himself too. They even have special hats. They can't lose.

I just give you one enlighting example to illustrate the status of the Iranian army. Iran has about 120 airplane fighters. 20 of them were bought/acquired in recent years from Russian Suko type. The main bulk (about 100 fighters) are from 1970s bought from USA by the Shah of Iran. They are mostly F5s that belong to musuens. Imagine now how such a fleet will stand off the Israeli airforce.

Less sophisticated? Where have you been for the past 45 years? They are STILL flying the aircraft that we gave them before 1979. You know... the country that fought, Iraq and neither country could get an advantage for 8 years, but the, U.S. blew through, Iraq and attained air supremacy in under 100 hours? Iran, the same country where we sunk HALF their navy in under 8 hours? The same country who is suppling, Russia with munitions that are FAR below the western standard ? The only decent thing they have made that has been given to, Russia are their drones. Iran has NEVER been considered to have a "sophisticated" military. Iran is a joke. The only thing that makes it special is its terrain and the fact that it is a country full of extremist on the brink of obtaining nuclear weapons.

Israel fights with swords, Iran with words.

If the ayatollahs regime (which doesn't really represent Iran) didn't do anything yet it's very unlikely they will really escalate. Their regime is widely unpopular and extremely represive. They played the easy game of supporting their proxies, but never thought they may have to fight an Israel that is ready to go for them, and will have no hesitate to assesinate their leaders. Don't forget that the US could take the opportunity to make the Ayatollahs pay the price.

Iran getting directly involved in the conflicts is not that simple because the Islamic regime in Iran has only about 30% support from the Iranian people.

when Iran ask for peace then the war will be over, if not then the war will only pause until the next round.
