Colin Kahl: Maximum Pressure or Danger? Assessing the Risks of Trump's Policy Toward Iran
Показать описание
In May 2018, President Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, more commonly known as the Iran nuclear deal, and re-imposed crippling economic sanctions against Tehran. Iran has now responded by restarting elements of its nuclear program and sponsoring militant attacks against US interests and allies in the Middle East. Trump claims he will keep the pressure on until Iran agrees to a better nuclear deal, while Iranian leaders insist they will not negotiate under duress. As tensions mount, what are the prospects for a peaceful settlement to the nuclear dispute, and what are the risks that the two sides could slide into war?
Join Colin Kahl, Steven C. Házy senior fellow at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies' Center for International Security and Cooperation and former national security advisor to the vice president of the United States, for a conversation on the current policies guiding the United's States approach towards Iran and what's at stake.
