Nice and clear conversation! I did totally feel that, having a normal conversation as an autistic guy is just so uncomfortable. Even more if you try to end it and the road just keeps going!

I always have trouble trying to politely end conversations. I usually just wait for a lull in the conversation and get out there, but my go to phrase to (hopefully) end with is "Well, it's been great talking with you..." It's usually taken politely.

When a conversation gets boring, I just stop paying attention. When they ask a question, I say, "I'm sorry, I appologize but I don't think I was paying attention; I was deep in thought on a tangent. I'm sorry, but could you repeat that?" Works like a charm and no one seems to get offended. Sometimes that happens unintentionally and I have to be honest and say that I was deep in thought and didn't realize I wasn't listening.

I have Asperger's and I've been on both sides of this situation, if it's a conversation about something I'm not big on and/or bored, I cant wait to get out of the situation. However, if it's a conversation about movies, Novels, music or Comic books I could talk for days about it and sometimes idk when to stop. I'm working on both

This sounds a lot like the Long Minnesota Goodbye - you've already said goodbye, then you continue the conversation at the door, then, after several minutes, you finally say goodbye for real and actually leave.

I used to just stand there until the conversation ended, then in that awkward silence the other person would decide to end it and leave. I've gotten better at recognizing when a conversation has, for all practical purposes, ended (generally it's that lull that lasts more than a few seconds, at least from what I've observed), though I'm still not great at ending them myself *without* interrupting - something I'm working on.

I know that exact feeling lol lol. There was a lady that kept me standing in Walmart for 3 hours that happens to go to my church talking about things like Sasquatch and aliens in things that really didn't make a whole lot of sense. Fortunately the way I got out of it is a lady from Walmart ended up walking by and said holy crap you guys have been there forever and I said yeah I think I actually need to go nice chatting with you and I left.
