The Amex is true. I am pretty sure that if you haven't gotten a credit card with Amex for awhile, they basically catagorize you as a new customer, especially its been 10 years since you had an Amex card.

Another good one is the regular Hilton Honors Amex. 100, 000 points for $1000 in spend + $100 statement credit, on a no annual fee card. With Amex's once in a lifetime rule for cards, I feel like this is a great time to add the regular Hilton card, whether or not you already have the Surpass or Aspire.

I followed your META and got the Amex Platinum as my first card after 5/24, right when they opened up the elevated offer (I got 100k). Hit the SUB last week (in month 3 of 6), and now the 10x on gas/groceries is just gravy. Nice improvement to production quality!

I am planning on taking a few trips either later this year or next, and am wondering which co-branded hotel card is the best to get? The Marriott seems to provide the best amount of hotel choices, but the IHG premier card seems to provide the best status + point earning. I can eventually get both since the reward night cancels out the annual fee, but which do you think I should go for first? Is it worth getting the Marriott Bonvoy over the IHG Premier? I can't find online anywhere that really explains which hotel card is the best.
