What if Uncle Iroh had Become Fire Lord? — Avatar: The Last Airbender

I think what happened in the show is best case scenario for the fire nation. There empire would have crumbled if they won through Rebels. They didn’t even lose anything. Post war the earth nation declined and the water tribe split in two leaving the fire nation the dominant world power.

Iroh would be an interesting firelord for Aang to face. The avatar would awaken into a world essentially already taken over by the fire nation, with only the water tribes still present. Iroh would have more of a personality and depth than Ozai had in the show, which would make his interactions with the Avatar interesting for sure. It would also bring into question who would be searching for the Avatar upon his awakening. I think it's safe to assume that if Iroh became the firelord, Zuko would've never been banished, and probably wouldn't have received his scar. Some things would be similar though, like Zhao's invasion of the northern water tribe, and Azula. Maybe even Zuko would accompany her on her search for Aang in book 2. A lot of things are uncertain though, like what would happen with Ozai. Would he try to overthrow Iroh? would be interesting! Anyways, great vid

There was an assumption I made that Iroh would have ascended to the throne not long after Ozai did in the original timeline. Forgot to mention that, but it didn't really make a huge difference either way. Thank you everyone for watching!

I didn't realize how the fire nation burning a whole bunch of forests was a bad idea until you pointed it out. Them attacking the water tribe on Sozin's comet would have been a smarter idea

If Iroh had become Firelord, Ozai would have no doubt tried everything in his power to assassinate him and take power for himself. If this was after Lu Ten's death, I think Ozai would be successful as Iroh would be distraught, and wouldn't be his usual self.

Interestingly, the situation of fire nation was similar to the end of Shang Dynasty. Shang Dynasty is different from other chinese dynasties, the King of Shang was also the chief priest to the Shang people. Shang dynasty is militaristic, invasive and love to use human sacrifice like Aztac. At the end of Shang dynasty, the last two generations of kings were doing a religious reformation, the use of human sacrifice is abandoned and the King turn their title in to emperor, claiming the emperor is the only communicator to deities. Diyi (Azulon), the second from last King of Shang dynasty, passed the throne to his youngest son Dixin (Ozai) instead of the first born Weiziqi (Iroh). Dixin started to invade Dongyi, the tribes in eastern china and expanded the territory of Shang into maximum. He also imprisoned Chang, the leader of Zhou tribe, which is powerful in western China. To save his father, Boyikao, oldest son of Chang was sacrificed. As a revenge, the second son of Chang, Fa, became the leader of Zhou tribe after Chang's death and created an ally against Shang. Fa also contacted Weiziqi (Iroh) and attacked the capital of Shang dynasty when Dixin was in the war with Dongyi. Dixin failed to defend the capital and suicide with his wife. After the war end, Fa claimed himself as King of China and started Zhou dynasty. Interestingly, he still allowed Dixin's son Wugen (Zuko) to be the leader of Shang tribe. After Fa's death, Wugen started a rebel against Zhou dynasty and Fa's brother Dan defeated him and banished him to Korean peninsula. In the end, Dan appointed Weiziqi (Iroh) as leader of Shang but send them to the place of Song, give him the title as the Duke of Song. Fun fact, Weiziqi is the direct ancestor of Confiucius.

If Lu Ten did not die and Iroh took the throne after capturing Ba Sing Se the world would be under control of the Fire Nation. Aang would be captured and imprisoned for live though Iroh would probably tell him he could also just join them. With the Avatar in their grasp the Fire Nation will rule the world for several years, after Iroh passes away his son takes the throne and Fire Lord Lu Ten would still keep Aang imprisoned. After shortly before Aang dies in this version of the story, possibly much earlier than he does in the original timeline a water bender that might not even be Korra will be born in this shall I say "Flame Empire". What happens after that I can not say.
