If you want to see if the EMT/Paramedic career is right for you, schedule a ride along with your local ambulance service. Most services are always looking for new providers especially volunteer services. This gives you some insight into what one is like.

I got hands on during my ride along lol we had a guy code our 2nd call after getting clipped on his motorcycle and then ran over by a box truck. He unfortunately died on the ambulance. I got to suction as he was throwing up and provide oxygen via bvm. It was pretty crazy, but got me prepared nonetheless. I’m pretty sure I was the only one in my class who had a ride along experience like that. No one else had any patients that were that critical

I was in acar accident and i remember being in the back with my mom who was also the a car accident. The emts were very calm which definitely helped. They made sure i stayed still in case of internal bleeding or injuries they took my vitals and everything. Shout out to the Lebonheur Hospital

I loved my ride alongs, 4 shifts and 3 cardiac arrests calls later, and I take my certification exam friday

The first hour into my shift we had a rollover tc and an unresponsive male down during his dialysis treatments very public cardiac arrest so they didn't allow me to do CPR but I held the IV gatheree the patients personal effects and calmed his nurse down cus she was blaming herself . You can learn something valuable from every call .

Plus, each hospital has their own ways of doing things just like NY state protocols are different than NREMT, hence why the written exam is different

So learn as much as you can from your preceptors and study well

Thank for this vid. Would you happen to know any ride alongs fir EMT in Chicagoland area? My daughter school wants her to get 36 hrs in for training. However, her school only provides morning ride alongs, and she works in the mornings. I've contacted training courses for Fire Academy and CFD and no avail. Thanks again

Do you have to be 18 to do these ride a longs. I want to be an EMT. I will be 18 in a month, but before i start do the training and get my certificate, i want to do a ride along.

And you may get sexually harassed by your ride a long crew. Please document it. First lesson in documentation, If it happens, document it.
