In addition to being full-time students at the University of Michigan, Thomas Chen and Mitchell Walsh work as first responders for Huron Valley Ambulance (HVA). Thomas is an Emergency Medical Technician and Mitchell is a Paramedic. They are also leaders of the Michigan EMS club, and worked to create a student-run ambulance in partnership with HVA. This ambulance, staffed exclusively with UM students, was designed to help cover the greater campus area during peak call times. Videographer Myles Murphy accompanied these partners for a 8pm-6am shift on Friday, April 14th. This video has been screened in accordance with HIPAA guidelines to protect patient confidentiality.

This is the coolest thing, I wish more schools had this available to students around their campuses!

I'd say the actual hardest part of the job is the whip-lash. You have that critical time sensitive pt but then you catch your next call and it ends up being not an emergency and its nothing.
