So in summary: Have loved ones and close friends, be happy, eat really healthy plant based foods, be physically active, like play with friends and animals, be honest and sleep well with out worry, do not smoke or drink. Then work honest and hard. 💥What this it what my Mother told me 76 years ago!🙏

I'm in early dementia, something I suspected two years ago. My speech, fine motor of fingers, my walking gate and the worst is my memory. But I am recalling things and peoples name from the distant past. I enjoy Margareta's on the week end and a Coke during the week, this I quit doing a week ago.

So many people are coming down with senility and alzheimers. Adequate sleep, healthy diet and exercise. Absolutely Doctor. Hereditary can also be a contributory factor.

well if someone is depressed in old age due to negligence, indifference and lack of real affection.. they can progress towards deterioration like dementia or Alzheimer's. not social isolation but neglect is the main environmental factors.

Ever since I was made aware of the caretaker I’ve been really afraid of getting this disease I’m terrified that this disease erases how you express yourself i know I’m young (23) but I want to look for ways that this can be prevented as I do not want to die this way I feel for the older ppl that suffered and died from this thank you for the information! I’ll try to apply these to my lifestyle I don’t smoke or drink but I’m not active I have to fix that

Dr.Mike, I love your informative videos & watch them often. This one about dementia hits close to home. My mother (b.1929) was a health 'nut'. We grew up with my Mom providing us the basic Mediterranean diet, very few sweets, no sodas, lots of water, lots of exercise and outside activities. She was diagnosed with young onset Alziemer's at 60 and died at 73. I was told that early Alz is heritary (I'm now 69 w/no signs) but please explain whether 'healthy living' or 'not' would have any impact on this type of Alz. I wonder if there's a distinction to be made between older aged Alz, and the type my Mom had. Thanks for any information you may have about this.

on the other hand highly educated people don't mind social isolation for they can find stimulus in reading material. But neglect and unhappiness are main reasons for Alzheimer's as it starts as depression.

Mediterranean diet is nowhere near a Keto diet and yet they both have positive effects. The key is avoiding processed foods/sugar. Cutting out entire food groups isn't sustainable.

In some west rich countries, they have a lot of process food like maggi and knoor products. They have also lot of cases of cancer due to smoke and dementia cases.

My understanding is that increased insulin **isn't** the **cause** of insulin resistance ... it is the **result** insulin resistance.

That is to say insulin resistance is due to excess intramyocellular lipids (fats clogging up the muscle cells' insulin receptors / pathways, likely caused by 1] consumption of excess fat and/or 2) consumption of excess fructose which converts to fat in the liver which then circulates in the blood and is taken up by muscle and other cells) making insulin ineffective at getting glucose into the cells, so the body produces **more** insulin to try to force the glucose in.

In the video you point to at the end of this one, you talk a lot about beta amyloid proteins and suggest lowering fat intake as a way to control the risk for Alzheimer's. In this video, you basically sponsor the ketogenic diet along with certain fats. These seem to be two contradictory messages. The medical ketogenic diet doesn't stipulate the types of fats you eat. Today, a hundred years after it was invented, the ketogenic diet has been turned into a lifestyle trend. I used the ketogenic diet to get my epilepsy under control. It saved my life. It didn't stop every seizure, but I no longer had daily clusters. So, am I more or less at risk for Alzheimer's for eating 200g of fat a day for years? Fats of all kinds, not just "Mediterranean" fats but cheeses, lamb, mackerel, chicken with skin, ghee in addition to countless lbs of nuts and seeds.
