I ferment or pickle the stalks. they retain a crisp crunch when pickled. I stand them at attention in the jar, pour in the spicy pickled brine and let sit 30 days in the fridge.

I juice them whenever we can cut them and to replace kale. I am totally agree that it is very easy to grow. I have them since last year and it came back. However lately the leaves seemed like wilted. I’m trying to seed the new one soon. Thank you so much. Love ❤️ your videos.

That oriole orange is one of my favorites to grow. I also love Barese and “perpetual spinach” chard.

I eat it raw (smoothies and salads) and cooked (soups, pasta sauce) every day. I like that they grow in the shade and in the sun, I harvest it as a baby green as well as mature, depending on the intended usage. It's great as a bok choi substitute with the same two-for-one crunchy stems and tender greens. I dry saute thinly sliced mushrooms and then braise a boatload of chard with 1 T water instead of oil. I use this in place of rice under dal or pinto beans OR under pasta pomodoro or enchiladas or a gazillion things. I do this with all my greens, but chard is my garden king. Kale is in second place. I also cut and come again with red cabbage, using the outer leaves instead of waiting months for it to head.

Angela, thanks for an educational video on Swiss Chard. I love growing and cooking them. They are a great addition to my white bean soup. Love them in stir-fry. I do have a question for you. My Swiss Chard leaves are not as big as yours. How do you make them grow such huge leaves? Do you add a lot of nitrogen in your fertilizer? Or, do you use chicken manure? Please help as my leaves are never as big as yours. Thank you!

Love your advice. And you have inspired me to build some structures:) i like that you have not stayed with just one material for your garden.
I live in the TX hill country north of San Antonio where it gets hot and freezes only sometimes. Our soil and water is alkaline but if we can find some horse manure to amend with that seems to give the best results for me.
Thank again
