Thank you for watching everyone. We've hit 100 000 subscribers too, so this is a bit of a special episode! 🥳 What did you think, was it too long or are you one of those that like longer videos? I don't necessarily plan on releasing many such long videos in the future (so much work to edit 😬), but for this one I felt like I needed to cover a larger span of time to make the story complete...

The most cruising thing I heard in a bit.
"It leaks less then the last one, we'll call it a win" . Love it.

I love the long ones. It is like reading an complete article, and not just the headlines. Best wishes from Germany.

Hi Juho, thanks for letting us be part of your journey! For me, this video was not too long at all!
About your Centerboard: we had a Maracuja 39 some time ago, which was the smaller sibling of your Alumi. For quite a while, Garcia made the centerboards, that they have play sideways. Under side pressure they set on the sides with a slight angle. The idea was to give it a better upwind performance. Maybe you noticed, that the bushing in the centerboard was not cylindric, then it was definitely made on purpose like that. Also, the centerboard is not totally unweighted, it has some lead inside at the back side, to keep it in down.
It's floating in nearly perfect sailing position under water (I installed our centerboard after a repair while the boat was in the water).
We learned, that It was most comfortable to sail with the centerboard partly up when going abeam and completely up, when sailing on a broad reach or downwind. The boat movements were also better with the boards up and the chance that you broach, is nearly zero without centerboard.
We newer locked the centerboard down, it stayed in position by itself and it would be able to pivot, if we hit something with the boat. For the same reason, we kept the small daggerboard behind the skeg mostly up, or at least higher than the skeg. As hitting something serious with the daggerboard down could possibly break the daggerboard box, which is most likely weaker then the daggerboard itself. We completely lowered the daggerboard only when needed for upwind sailing.
Congratulations to your boat, I am sure, you will going to love it. We were very happy with ours. Sailing performance was very good except for upwind, but that's what you pay for a boat, with an inboard ballast (and 1m draft).
All the best, enjoy life and stay safe. Rolf

Really appreciate you taking me on my first journey over the Columbia bar. A Oregonian born and raised, always hearing of vessels in distress on Columbia bar, really have admiration for those taking the challenge. Enjoy the scenic and calm of the strait Juan de Fuca Until next time calm winds.

I’ve been subbed for a couple years. I don’t follow extremely closely, but enough to know the channel’s general arc, and I love love love it.
The couple is mindblowingly informed and are able to present in a comprehensive and entertaining manner.
The knowledge and information is gargantuan.
Just wow

A brick of a vessel and I am amazed at what you accomplished in such a short period of time to get her seaworthy. This was a terrific catch-up and the moon light shots were very special. Looking forward to more adventures.

great video, I spent 20 years sailing georgia straight out of vancouver BC, you will love it, killer whales, strong tides further north and beautiful wilderness sailing , lots of logs in the water from log booms being towed . Reality sailing channels are the best, I look foreward to your future adventures .
