I am a Chinese living in China and I can use YouTube Netflix Facebook and WhatsApp etc. It's because most of us Chinese young people know how to get acess to them by using VPN.

The real question is, why does facebook limit free speech while promoting their own political agendas all the time? Instead of just being a communication tool?

Face Book needs to be banned from the World

Wikipedia is not 100% banned, only the Chinese version of it. You can pretty easily look it up in any language, this means, that only a well-educated small portion of the Chinese population has access to the information, while the majority of the population has to go to "Baidu Baike" for government sanctioned information

To be honest, foreign internet services and apps didn't quite suitable for the Chinese market. Uber did get harassed, but that's not the ultimate reason for its failure. The business model of Uber just doesn't work so well in China. And everyone else include Apple, Tencent and Alibaba are investing DiDi rather than Uber because the team in DiDi know exactly what local needs. And about Facebook, I think it wouldn't be successful in China at all even if it didn't get banned since 2009. There is a similar service called RenRen which enjoys the entire Chinese market since Facebook left but still failed miserably because of the rise of WeChat. WeChat is just a better way to connect with friends and families rather than constantly harassed by "suggested friends" and countless advertisement. Netflix is a great service but I have to say its subscription fees are way too expensive for the Chinese market. Usually, local streaming service would only cost about 200 Yuan which around 30 bucks a year. It is only 1/4 cost of Netflix service. And these streaming services would produce contents suit the taste of local audiences.
I think Google would be the only company which potentially would be successful in China if it was not banned. All Chinese phone company are using Android as their phones' OS. And YouTube is still the best place for creators to upload their contents. Its map service is still superb and other services like Google Docs and Gmail are essential to my daily life. But most people in China just didn't care about Google as I do.
About the personal information, average Chinese don't care about this as long as their information hasn't been used to do illegal things like frauds. As a matter of fact, many Chinese even happily handle their information to major websites like Weibo and Alipay which then can be easily accessed by government. I know it sounds really bad but most people in China trust government more than companies from foreign countries. There are constant fears among Chinese people that foreign powers would use any means to destabilize Chinese society and suppress the rise of China.

Well done and spot on. I am Chinese and more than often can not help to be biased towards anything bad said about China. With that being said, your contents were accurate and mutual, good job. Well informed criticism, unlike most of other contents only spread hatred blindly without facts.

Russian internet tech comapies also don't fall behind: Yandex is more popular than google in search, maps and navigation (may be e-mail), vk.com is more poular than facebook, Yandex.taxi used to be more/equaly popular as Uber (before its murger with Uber in Russia) and etc. The market was not isolated or smth, just nobody gave a shit about it, so Russian companies got big before foreign came to the market.
