No offense, but id like to be in the meeting where you get opposing ideas or arguments to a point where both would be tested. If even viable (most of the time not due to resource or nature), the manager is nodding off at least ONE bad idea. Middle management is running on NEVER bad ideas.

Testing hypotheses is great, the usefulness of this technique is rather limited in reality.

BUT: Bringing this up fairly could get you through the door with the other person giving up or starting to waver if your actually the one trying to push through the actual better point.
