I prefer timeless to trendy because this year’s hot trend is next year’s “what the hell were they thinking.” Of course, a trendy paint color is not as costly for the owner or next owner to change than is a trendy tile floor or trendy brick wall. I do like the idea of eliminating the boring white ceiling.

I live near Carrara - I am in the same province - and here we are used to marble since the beginning of times. We have marble benches in parks and train station, we have entire sidewalks made of marble, entire school floors as well.

BUT I can’t get use to see marble in the entire vertical walls or even in the ceilings, because here you can find those only in churches or graveyard. When I look at a place with too much marble in a home I get a feeling of discomfort. 🤷🏻‍♀️

When we moved into our new home this year. Every room felt like a cave. It made me feel depressed. So I painted all the walls SW Snowbound and the trim SW Fundamental White and put color on the ceilings in the form of SW Sweet Salt Air (almost the color of sea glass). Everyone doubted me when I told them I was putting color on the ceilings (I was nervous too). But I knew I wanted a clear, crisp, blue above me, and it worked out. I'm so happy with my decision.

Checkerboard is timeless. In this country, alone, it goes back to the colonies. I’ve always incorporated bits of it in my decor and am glad to see a fresh collection of items.

."..a little too oligarchy for me..." A brilliant line.
Textured "art" is a dust-catcher. Not for those who want low maintenance in their décor.

Checker board instantly reminds me of pizza parlor and as cute as some people have managed to make it look I just can’t really bring myself to like it

Just moved to Bellingham, WA & made a day trip to Vancouver. Totally on the look out for a Nick Lewis sighting the whole time 😂

I have painted and wallpapered ceilings on my Pinterest page from 10+ years ago, and I’ve always found this look inspiring. It’s been around in variations for centuries (Sistine Chapel anyone?) and I think it’s such a fun surprise when you look up in a room and it’s not just white!

Back in the late 80s I designed and built my family home in Brasil. Trends really do come and go! The guest shower and the kitchen backsplash are handmade tile, the master bath is in a ridiculously outrageous pink marble we were gifted at the time but it still looks amazing LOL, the boys bathroom was done in white and pale grey tiles in a checkerboard pattern on the floor and at the top of the half wall. I will let my ex and his wife know that the old house is super trendy now, since very little has changed there since it was built!! Fun video, thanks for all the info!

I love the way you choose your words to not offend. "That is something I think people are doing a lot less of"... "Not that there's anything wrong with that"... and so on.

I just started watching your challenge and I find that your approach stands out for almost every YouTuber I have encountered. Your pace is great, you don't talk over the average person's head and give so many options. You share guidelines and ideas without judgment or snootiness. I could listen to you for hours, even when you're talking about something I'd never want in my home.

I'm old enough, now that I've seen these trends go around and come around. Textured art reminds me so much of the 80s - lots of plastery paint that gave 3-dimensionality to wall art, and texture in neutral textiles (I mourn the mohair rug that was undyed but woven with lots of texture - alas, I was alone in my fandom and it sold in a yard sale). Maybe I won't consign the textured plaster floor lamp to the trash heap, just yet...

Ok I am lowkey obsessed now with a painted or wallpaper ceiling. Such a cool way to bring in color in a space you might not necessarily want to paint in something that isn´t a neutral

When we moved into our new house (12 years ago), we painted our bedroom dark indigo. Ceiling included. With blackout curtains, it was dark in the middle of the afternoon. We called it our sleeping cave. My kitchen is egg yolk yellow with white cuboards. I call it inside out egg

I love a black and white checkerboard floor in a kitchen. To me there is something very timeless about it.

I realize that the design profession must play the game of constant change in order to maximize sales and profits. However, our planet is drowning in waste. We need to promote timeless design and quality material. Please stop with the constant change for no good reason other than padding the pockets of the industry.

Just painted my ceiling in my living room a blue/green color and I LOVE IT. I also put up some really detailed crown molding and it really made the space feel really special.

My Dad was an artist/painter. He was master to/employer of, one of Australia’s most beloved Artists. Dad always said to me, “never paint ceilings anything but white with a touch of blue to the tin.” I Just cannot get past this advice.

Fun video. I should be getting ready for work, but I'm watching instead (can I get a late slip?) A friend and I spent our lunch hour debating two colour options for her ceiling when a third friend came by and we explained what we were doing. "What's the other colour, " he asked after looking at our two paint chips. He looked blank after our explanation of undertones. He was not invited to participate in the debate.

Video Idea: Would you consider maybe doing something on "European" wardrobes? So armoires rather than built-in closets and how needing them can be integrated into great bedrooms? I love watching American and Canadian Interior Content like yours but when you guys talk about bedrooms or closets, it almost always assumes the Northern American set up so your ideas are often not applicable to other countries (its probably outside of Europe, too). which is a shame because I would love to hear your opinions on armoire closets - it can be so hard to find nice ones!

I adore him, he helped me a lot with my renovations. I often have "grandma Yetta" home styling floops. He gives us style wanderers good guidance with his videos. Tnx
