6 THINGS WE LEARNT FROM MAN CITY 4-2 CHELSEA. An Erling Haaland hat-trick saw Manchester City 4-2 Chelsea in the FC Series pre season friendly at The Ohio Stadium, Columbus. Chelsea 2-4 Manchester City highlights saw Manchester City race into a 2-0 lead after 4 minutes after Chelsea gave away a penalty which Haaland then scored for Man City. Man City scored again with another Haaland goal seconds after the first goal as Chelsea's defence capitulated. A familiar theme for Chelsea FC this pre season. Enzo Maresca has a lot of work to do for Chelsea before Chelsea vs Real Madrid in Charlotte, North Carolina in Chelsea's final pre season friendly of the Chelsea FC USA tour 2024. Let me know the 6 things you learnt from Chelsea 2-4 Manchester City in the comments below!

We don't need to sign players that will fit into our first team. We have a squad full of talented players. We just need to stick with the squad of players we have, stick with a manager for longer than a year, and then we will start to see some results. This team can win things. The missing ingredient is consistency

1. We need to be 1000% ready from the start
2. Sanchez should be banished from the squad
3. Nkunku is best as 10 never as a striker
4. We need to have plan b tactics inside games especially against those who excel at what we are trying to do
5. We need a proper striker that is similar to Drogba and Costa
6. It would be helpful if the players continue to trust Maresca and so should the supporters

So glad that you pointed out the refereeing. The man was on a power trip in the first half.

I think Pep really helped us by exposing our defense, of which will make Enzo moresca should, and would focus on it, and mark my words was happy for that, as much as was hurt 💔as any Chelsea fan. Overall it was necessary so as to keep on emphasis on improving quickly by the time we play city on our first game, even pep said it on his post conference, and I quote, "it won't be like this at Stamford Bridge" Guys we'll improve and surprise teams. Well get at least a point.

Nkunku was class, Lavia is brilliant, Sanchez is too ballsy and it costs us mistakes, Mudryk still needs to gain confidence, and our defense is shaky and leaky. Something needs to change and not a single one of our CBs are looking good. We need to bring Chalobah back for some sort of consistency.

I think we need to use our new keeper. Sanchez makes some big saves but is so inconsistent. Petro is better at keeping but can’t pass, Sanchez has decent distribution but his keeping is all over the place. We need to be solid out the back and need better finishing up front. Chances are being created but we drop possession like a hot pan, we simply struggle at build up from the back and the tracking back is lazy

Another great blog G 👏 I completely agree with your comments about Enzo. It seems like an awfully long time since he played well for us, and he cannot be selected just because of his price tag. Lavia, Nkunku & Noni are the only 3 players showing any consistency on this tour. I would’ve added Gusto but being asked to play left wing was baffling and he certainly wasn’t up to it. But I’m an optimist and I know how quickly things can turn around in football 🤞

Chelsea weren't "outclassed", chelsea were the better team going forward, it just some school boy mistakes, and even mistakes on Maresca, because he started enzo and caicedo, when they should have come on in the second half and when in the last 3 games, Nkunku was playing as a no.10 a free role, and it was working, he played him as a no.9, which limits nkunku and he can't play as well .
Maresca tried to make his team the strongest, against pep .

I believe Maresca is experimenting with different players and shapes trying to figure out what's going to work, we shouldn't be taking preseason too seriously because it's all about the players learning to work in his system

Can't believe no one is talking about the fact that we need a world-class center back. We lost Thiago Silva and decided to replace him with Tosin, who I feel is an average defender. Right now, we need a proper center back who can be a leader both on and off the pitch. The lack of leadership in the defense is evident. We might be in for a long season if we don't sort this out quickly. A proper defender should be prioritized over signing a striker right now.

We fucking have chalobah who is like the best we have of a Lamborghini defender

James is not sharp enough yet. Fofana is back from long term injury as well. Chalobah should be in the team, or at least ahead of some of the other center backs.

EM learning all the time about what the players can and can’t do, see who is good under pressure/how they deal with when not going right etc
Atm it looks like the defence/keeper are the areas he’s unsure about and will need the most work but no matter what it’s pre season and he’ll be sorting things out in training for the first few games learning which players he can trust

Would be curious to hear your thoughts about what Chilwell could look like in the Gusto role from the first half (and especially reece james if we flipped the formation). If we play one of the fullbacks as the touchline hugger, we could conceivably play both Enzo AND Caicedo in the deeper 2 roles of the box midfield, and crucially play Palmer and Nkunku as the number 10s. Not sure we'll see it matchweek 1, but a build up structure of Levi CCB with Cucu and Fofana as wide CBs, deep midfielders of Enzo and Caicedo, width coming from Reece and Sterling/Mudryk, and Jackson ahead of Palmer and Nkunku would put all of our best players on the field at the same time, but questions would be asked of Reece's 1 v 1 ability and Fofana in build up. Love the video as always hope you are enjoying the USA.

I don’t think I’ve seen us this bad at the back since the 2015/16, early 2016/17 campaign. Plus we need a striker as that’s what’s been missing since Enzo Maresca came in
