Fun fact: There is a 1988 arcade game called NARC... and it's about guys in bike helmets walking around and killing everyone with gore, drugs and other trash all over the place! It's Hotline Miami of 1988.

Saw a pretty solid theory recently:

Every one of Richter's missions start with him immediately getting bum rushed by mobsters the moment he opens the door. By the time he was on his fourth mission (killing Jacket), he was almost certainly preparing to be charged down again, so he brings along a silenced uzi...

Only this time, there wasn't a dozen pissed-off mobsters on the other side of the door when he rushed in, finger on the trigger. There was just one, unarmed girl...

It was an accident. And he was truly, bitterly sorry for it.

With all odds stacked against Richter he always seemed to prevail. The man is so driven to save his own dying mother he does things a man such as himself couldn't ever do. Richter was the true underdog of the game, and the only one who got away in the end without destroying his life in some way. Now that's a true hero.

I adore the intro to this one. Dark. Bitter. Corrupted and evil. Getting closer. Getting *louder.* Getting *serious.*

Then the door opens.

Richter was such a tragic character. All he wanted was to take care of his mother, and he was forced to become a murderer... Everything about his story breaks my heart.

This game instilled in me an irrational, deep seated hatred for fat people

This level was very smart. Less enemies and more thinking included. I liked it.

The most 80's thing about this game? Beside the music, setting, plot, visuals etc?
No other game in the world can make a sober player feel like they're on a large, bug-eyed dose of stimulants. It's hypnotizing.

HM will always be one of my most favourite games of all time. This track perfectly reflects Richter’s transformation from a regular man into a stone-cold killer. As soon as Richter went through the entrance, he was never going to be the same again. His first level in HM2 was panicked and rushed, get in quickly and then get out in the same vain, and the placement of the enemies in it reflected that perfectly. But the next one is far from that. It forces the player to be efficient and to take risks, showing to us that Richter’s innocence is now gone. Replaced with something insidious, the need to kill so he can protect his own.

Richter is probably one of the only decent human beings in game aside from Evan, he doesn’t kill for money, he doesn’t kill for fame, he does it to protect his mother

as i entered this stage on hard mode, this song slowly taunted me into a state of pure insanity as i performed the same actions over and over again with minor variation and imperfection, only to be met with the same bitter results over and over again. each step forward was brutally fought for through a daze of mental fog and repetition, with the grand reward of this work being a slim chance at conquering the final, most unintimidating yet dangerous foes in my path, only to be met with failure of this basic task over and over again.

to earn this rite of passage, you must truly like hurting people. specifically, yourself.

This track and level honestly gave me the chills down my spine, everyone pretty much remembers this as the level with the tough ass intro but to me, It was a self reflection on what it means to truly cross the thin fine line from being a Boy to becoming a Man by taking a shortcut through being a Savage. The minute Richter sets foot inside that shady establishment, he's leaving behind his mom and his innocence in trade for the dark underground Neon drenched rat holes that the 50 blessings assign him to. If the player suceeds, he just might flip that level around and turn it from just another rat hole into one of his personal glory holes. This level not only gets down and dirty but it also gets it done right. Bravo Jonathan and Denis.

I hated how frustrating this level was, but I LOVE the execution animation for the fireaxe! 😀

The fans dying was the point of no return for me. I knew if they could die then no one was safe. But this level was just the descent into the abyss. Completely unfair right from the opening, near impossible odds, plunged in darkness and with this unrelenting beat hanging over my head I understood that this game was going to take me to places I no longer wanted to go but had to complete.

Richter got a bad break, but seeing him through to the end was worth it.

In my opinion this is the one of the best tracks i've ever heard in my life.

"Hey Richter."
"What?"
"Remember that one floor in Demoli..."
*pulls out silenced uzi*
"Please don't remind of that."
"Okay."
