People go about their day-to-day lives worried about the little things. Upon seeing the mushroom cloud on the horizon, they wonder if any of it was worth it. This song feels like the consolation of a good friend, knowing that you did your best but even that wasn't enough. It's a dignified resignation. It's the sound of all the what-ifs in your head being drowned out and accepting the here and now. It's not the best life you could've lived, but it's the one you chose.

Sheesh, after I finished the game and was faced with this track again at the main menu I couldn't help but get chills.

I was confused at first when I saw the main menu. I thought it was just a storm going over Miami.

Oh boy, was I wrong. Now every time I start it up, I get chills.

Beating the game, connecting the dots and understanding the meaning of the main menu background is worth the whole gaming experience.

I can only imagine something similar to the ending: people living their lives, with their issues, oblivious that a nuke will erase them along with everyone and everything else.

If that would happen (nukes killing everyone) I would like to hear this song just one last time... and have Richard telling me that leaving this world is not as scary as it sounds.
