Huge fossil find - fossil hunting in a secluded river for ancient fossils

I spent an afternoon exploring a secluded river for what I suspect is Miocene fossils, though I am not 100% sure on that as I couldn't find a good map or paper describing the area.

I had a great day out and managed to find some fossils, including one very, very heavy fossil vertebra (suspect from a cetacean) that I carried home.

I'm pretty sure the bird is a yellowhammer as the beak is brown not black and the yellow on the head is speckled.

That vert find is awesome, loved your reaction. Didn't know you were a master rock skipper either (always have to skip a few for sure). That dolphin prep is looking fantastic, looking forward to the video. Thanks so much for the shout out, that was a great conversation, the time just flew by. Cheers!

Evening, it seems amazing how many fossils there are in New Zealand compared with the UK. The great thing about your video's is the great wealth of knowledge gained on what to look for, the amount of fossilised wood fragments I must have thrown away not realising what it was, now I know. Can't wait for the next one.

Beautiful country. You are an accomplished rock skipper! Thank you for sharing this day. The fossils you found are whispering of ancient days and life long past. What a strange fate for that old whale’s vertebra.

Wow! I truly love your finds on this trip. Good eye. I got worried for a second when you said you had a long way to go & might have to leave the whale vertebrate behind. But I know you better. No good fossil is left behind. 😁 Looking forward to some more prep videos. Also, you're pretty good at skipping stones. 👍❤️
