It is INDEED a mistake I've been making! Good to know! Thanks Doc!

That is an amazing tip! I’ve seen so many people treat their acne and when they see it’s gone, they’ll stop treating it. Afterwards it comes back and it’s just an ongoing cycle. Remember just because you clear your acne and you stop treating it because you don’t see any breakout’s, doesn’t mean it’s not going to come back!

I think the biggest mistake people with acne make is trying to dry out their skin to avoid or get rid of pimples, when in fact, skin needs moisture.

Another tip that has recently helped me a lot is to start acne treatments about a week before I get a bad hormonal breakout. I start my products all over my chin line the day after I ovulate. This has helped the cysts I get during my period so much!

The problem is I have acne prone and sensitive skin. If I keep putting on the acne medication even after the pimples have gone away, then my skin will become irritated red and dry :(

I too was making this mistake, I guess it’s kind of like antibiotics, you gotta finish the full 7-10 days, don’t stop when you feel better lol

This is why i hate spot treatments. People and brands overclaim them so much on the internet. It's frustrating. Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinoids and Salicylic Acid aren't meant to be used as a spot treatment.

That's so true! My skin was so good from using derm appointed topical treatments for 4 months and when they ran out and I thought my skin was clear forever, my acne came back much worse 😭😭😭😭

I use zapyt in the shower every night and it has been the best face wash I've ever used. I very rarely get a hormonal breakout. Because it's a face wash I can include salacylic acid on a regular basis without over-drying my skin. Thanks for suggesting it in the past because I live in Australia and it is not available here so I would have never even know about it!

the mistake is listening to YouTube influencers and YouTube dermatologist.... You know doctors take an oath... Instead of selling products giving false hope they should be telling you how to naturally cure your skin... I finally found a real dermatologist and my skin's been clear for 5 years now I haven't had a single breakout.. just like she misses the opportunity to let her viewers know overusing moisturizers like hyaluronic acid can actually have reversed effects and can actually damage your skin... I learned my lesson

I’m 51 and on progesterone. I get frustrating whiteheads between my bottom lip and chin when I’m taking it. I hate it! Nothing works to clear it up except Benzoil peroxide, which then leaves it really dry and crusty.

Definitely true! I incorporated an acne cleanser for my night routine and it’s made a word of a difference in preventing acne and controlling how big it gets. For the most part I’m not acne prone but every once in a while I’ll have a huge cyst pop up and the cleanser has really helped with that.

So true. I used to do that. But now I keep a salicylic product in my routine. And when I do break out it’s one tiny bump and easily clears up…yes I do still breakout due to a stressful job, no getting around that. but keeping one of the cerave salicylic products in my routine really minimizes the frequency of breakouts.

How frequently would you recommend use of salicylic acid?

I make this mistake allll the time with my retinol, which I know I’m supposed to use far in advance of breakouts yet still forget!

I'd rather not prolong the use of benzoyle peroxide especially when my acne is healed, I don't want to end up with eczema or extremely irritated skin.

It makes sense. You wouldn’t stop taking the course of antibiotics just because you feel better. Thanks doc!

This is true! Continuing acne treatments after the acne is cleared up helps!

Thanks for the advice. I myself make this mistake!
