Tesla Tried to Sell Me a WRECKED Model 3...

Tesla sells their used vehicles "As Is". Unfortunately for me, my used Tesla was wrecked.

Buying a Tesla used from their website means you have to commit to buying the vehicle sight unseen. When you get to your new vehicle delivery, you don't really have any recourse if you're satisfied with the vehicle.

Just scheduled my used Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD delivery for Thursday and youtube be like "Wait... Watch this video." I am super excited to pick up, but this shows you really need to be diligent and be willing to walk away if the car is not what you were expecting rather than getting locked into a $30k loan. Thanks for the warning and I hope mine doesn't come to that.

This is pretty similar to our experience. We bought a 21 model 3 performance 2 weeks ago. You're putting down a down payment and paying a shipping fee thats non refundable on a car you have not seen and "per their policy" they wont supply pictures even after putting the money down. If you've read what they consider acceptable condition for a car it's pretty scary including 4" scratches, Dents and rips in the seats upto an 1". It took about a week for it to arrive to the local service center. Upon arrival, the car had what I would consider excessive paint chips similar to what you saw on yours for the age of the vehicle and also had a pin-striping that was painted down both sides. This was never listed anywhere on their site and it ended in the word fast. Under the word fast the artist had signed it in purple. When I said something to the Tesla rep they were just like oh we didn't even see it. If you saw this car there's no way you're not seeing it. It also looked like they had hosed it down and dried it off with a dirty dish towel however the interior and the rims were immaculate. It was also fitted with new summer tires which I understand they come with when the vehicle is new but not the best choice in February in the north east.

They offered no options we either had to eat the $1000 and walk away or take a chance on this one and hope we can get the pin-striping removed without damaging the paint and get the paint chips fixed. We ended up taking it as it was and the only 2021 or newer used model 3 performance Tesla had anywhere and the pricing was also pretty good . Im looking at over $1500 to get it paint corrected and the stripe removed and shelled out $1600 for new tires.

At least you found the damage before you took delivery. I have a model x that has unreported, hidden damage on the rear passenger door. Didn’t notice it until 6 months later when Tesla refused to repair the malfunctioning Falcon door under warranty because of the damage.

They could promise to spend 2 hours replacing the bumper, but couldn't put the car on a hoist and invest 10 mins inspecting the front end for accident damage. What incompetence. Glad it all worked out for you.

I had a similar experience picking up a 2021 M3. Simply put the car was beat especially the rear bumper deep paint gouges and scratches. Interior was dirty and stained, Every issues I brought up to the advisor was deflected or dismissed his go to phrase was everything was still with in spec. The whole experience was a disappointment.

Im about to order a used Tesla and am hesitant because im not sure what I'm getting because they have no photos and the description just says "No Reported Accidents/Damage, Meets Tesla's mechanical requirements, Will exhibit cosmetic imperfections"... I’ll hopefully be buying a model 3 AWD long-range next April, gonna check off the no previously reported accidents, and FSD. Hoping it turns out fine
