8:28 Fun fact about TheMasterCaver here, he didn't just stay on 1.6.4, he actually created his own entire fork of Minecraft backporting a bunch of stuff from modern and adding new stuff as well. It's a rabbit hole and a half, id highly recommend anyone reading this to check it out.

Another fun fact, he's also quite possibly the most dedicated Minecraft player of all time, mining out quite literally millions of ores just for fun.

My theory is that some dev changed something, either by accident or just to test something, and it never ended up being changed back.

I honestly prefer the old giant oceans.
Granted I always play on mod packs with in-build minimap’s so you’d easily be able to find your way around and not get lost, but in general the idea of continents separated by oceans, instead of one giant continent with large lakes on it, just feels more interesting.
Luckily there are mods for that.

Maybe mojang removed swiss cheese caves because lactose intolerant players complained they didn't like them 🤔

I always thought there were a WAY MORE undocumented features that were never mentioned in patch notes from very old, fairly obscure versions already.

Interesting fact about the console edition scene back then;
When we got TU28, our equivalent of 1.7.2, we had a different name for the update, being "The update that flooded the world." If you generated a new world during that version, good 70 percent of the world would be ocean

TheMasterCaver is a legend in the golden age minecraft community. Guy is absolutely obsessed with lighting up caves and mining every ore in caves, spends like 5-6 hours of minecraft in one sitting just caving and nothing else.

I just realized this is probably why I had such an easy time finding large caves on the anarchy server I currently play on. I started my first base in beta chunks, I didn't remember there being as many caves

My reply got deleted. Arguing over multiple days about a basic misunderstanding is pathetic and you should go outside and touch grass.

My first Minecraft world was in 1.7.10 - never knew they were different until I started playing old MC and noticed something was off. Nice to see this confirmed - great video as always, Epic!

TheMasterCaver is the most obscure popular character in the mc community but if you see him once somewhere you'll be sure to see him again

If I were a dev at this point I would add a very rare biome "Alpha" variants with old generation, blocks with those contrast toxic textures and ofc those cheese caves underground. That would be a nice easter egg and tribute to old Notch times.

2:25 honestly I really miss the big oceans

caves in beta minecraft were the best caves have ever been in my opinion. They seemingly go on forever and because of the way the game is balanced, so long as you have wood, you can stay down there as long as you want.

I kinda miss the infinite oceans.
Yea, they’re borring, but they added an interesting challenge for once you ran out of land.
Also since so many people want MC to be “””realistic””” a majority of earth is ocean.

Holy shit i wasnt insane??? I remember playing as a kid and being able to travel literally dozens of chunks through caves that connected or nearly did.

Then around the time of 1.7 i think i noticed caves never connected.
And the amount of dead ends was increased immensely.

I remember playing back in the day and it felt like every time I went into the caves I would become hopelessly lost no matter how hard I tried and would have to dig straight up to escape.
I just thought I got way better at not getting lost in caves but I suppose this is the real culprit.

release 1.7 being called "forgotten" makes me feel old. imo its one of the staple versions of "modern" minecraft (especially
1.7.10), when i think of newer world gen i think of mesas, ice spikes and stuff but maybe im just out of touch. i feel like 1.6 and 1.1 deserve to be called forgotten, but certainly not 1.7

Man Im glad to know this wasnt just psychological. I didnt really notice this until 1.9; over 1.6-1.8 I played over the same world and didn't really explore much. Creating a new world for 1.9 I noticed this but I thought I was just unlucky or imagining it. Nothing even mentioned it, and my only real source of info was the little summary in the old Launcher

For singleplayer worlds in Modded 1.7.10, McMasterCaves jar mod fixes the lack of cave generation along increasing how common various underground structures are and ravines; its awesome. The 1.7.10 modding community is still alive and well I suggest you make a video on it at some point.
