Marcellus William is facing execution in Missouri Tuesday after the state's Supreme Court and the state's governor both rejected pleas to halt the procedure. Williams has asserted his innocence, and his team is arguing the case was affected by procedural errors and prosecutorial mishandling. CBS News contributor Rebecca Roiphe breaks down the details.

If the prosecutors destroyed key evidence that will favour his defense, then surely the death penalty shouldn't even be an option here 🤷‍♂️

This court is wrong to say " they see no evidence to prove the person is not guilty ". They are suppose to look at evidence to DETERIMNE if the LAW and PROCESS were sound. THEY ARE NOT TO DETERMINE " INNOCENT OR GUILT ".

Destroying evidence of innocence is a disgrace. The goal is the end game not the process of integrity.

If the prosecutors destroy evidence and they think he’s innocent, then why is schedule for execution? something is not right with this. it wouldn’t be the first time a innocent person has been convicted of a crime

Smh. Too many black men found innocent years later. Shameful

If they execute him because of some racial bias, his blood would haunt them and their generations to come. Many people have called in to review the case, but the State government has decided not to listen to plea of the people, it is sad.May God be the judge.

I doubt the US Stupreme Court will take up the case.... I expect that they will decline to hear it.
Which is really, really sad.... It seems he is asking for a 'stay', to allow new evidence to be considered. And they won't even give him that. 😟

Help me understand how a convicted felon can run for president but a Black man can be executed for a crime he didn’t commit? This is a disgrace to this country. May he rest in peace with Our Lord….

😮You can't bring a life back! If there is ANY chance someone is innocent, they should NOT face the death penalty!!! 😢

They had more than 20 years and couldn't prove the supposed innocence?

….in possession of victim’s property after the fact an attempted escape while awaiting trial as a previous convicted felon obviously is a very almost impossible innocent claim to convince those entities who has the power to spare his life at the last hour.

Regardless of what he did, there is no need for the death penalty. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES. People are sick. Just openly unalive someone YEARS AFTER THE CRIME. What kind of sense does that make. Give him life move on. He can’t go anywhere. The death penalty is sick on all levels. It should be abolished.
