That image of the squatting skeleton is out of one of the best books ever: “Strength Training Anatomy” by Frédéric Delavier

All people talk about is ankle mobility 😮‍💨 What actually helps for long femurs is doing a low bar squat, stance toes pointing out and squat shoes if you still need some extra help. Wide flared stance is the #1 key to really help us with long femurs and to not overload our lower backs

Thank you. I have long femurs and short torso. Been trying for years to get upright. Now I’ll focus on other things.

Nice picture from the book "strengh training anatomy" by Delavier and Gundill that covers the different strengh training movement in regard of anatomy.

There is also one big factor not mentioned here. This is how deep in the hip socket your femur sits in. Some folks have quite shallow joint, and then bigger range of motion, and others have deep sitting joint, hance reduced mobility.

I have really long legs and am quite tall and I got sooo frustrated for years trying to find a solution for my squat. Honestly, nothing helped as much as putting two small plates under my heels and work on hip mobility rather than ankle mobility but I’m sure it’s in there

I was leaning too forward with back loaded squats and swapped to front loaded and my lower back pain went away. I really need to fix ankle mobility.

I think her butt may be rising a little too fast compared to her torso/shoulders. I've seen other YT videos on this and the main recommendation I've seen for this is to perform pause squats in the middle of the descent and at the bottom. The focus would also be on thinking of your shoulders as a tripod of contact on the bar and driving that tripod through the bar evenly. On video, the improvement should show as the glutes and the shoulders/tripod rising at the same speed during the beginning of the squat ascent.

I have a short torso and long femurs. My bar path is very straight over my middle foot when I low bar squat. When I squat just past 90 is like I am laying on my damn thighs lol but it feels natural.

My left femur is noticeably longer than my right. Oddly affects squats and deadlifts for me, like i really notice how important foot positioning is

Tom Platz doesn't seem to understand this.

Thank you to remember everyone has a different body.

Now the question arises, would it affect my back on heavier weights if I have longer femur? And is there any way to circle around it?

@Squat University I recently sprained my ankle (grade 3 inversion complete dislocation) I always take a very wide stance when squatting because my height and anatomy, I’m 6’6” with a size 15 shoe, I can successfully get about 3 inches away from the wall and successfully touch the wall with my knee.

My question is the 5” rule of thumb matters compared to shoe size? And will hitting 5 inches help me bring my legs in closer when I squat as I take double shoulder width stance with toes pointed at “10 and 2”

I’ll keep my narrow stance and my folded over posture, as long as I’m pushing #500+ idgaf.

Just work on getting better ankle mobility so that you can move your knees further forward if you feel like you are bending forward too much to keep it steady with long femurs
