Giving unconditional love is hard on the empathy. The partners felt like they are only getting the same treatment as the other people in the their lives. Being a friend is different than feeling love exclusive for the partner only especially for partners that are not confident in close relationship as being clinging and needed validated always which for my knowledge is not a healthy relationship. There would be times an empath needed time alone. If you are confident and secure with in yourself, you wouldn't need to hold too tight. It is like you are holding a bird in your palm, if you hold too tight it would die; but if you hold your palm open and the bird would fly away, that bird would come back to your open palm because who wouldn't love that kind of love, giving freedom to come on their own, they will learn to give unconditional love too because the love us so free, that doesn't mean to cheat, trust is so important for that kind of relationship, if you are strong enough to go deeper in life with the empath, you will have them for life. Nobody in the world could understand unconditional love until you go through the test with them.
