Have a T56 Magnum 6 speed in my 68 Chevelle. With a 496 Big Block my mileage went from 12 mpg to 26 mpg on the highway traveling at 65 mph.

Over the years there has been considerable improvement in both manual transmissions and various types of automatic and automated transmissions. I am old enough to remember cars with a 3 speed column shift where only second and third synchronized. Now most manual transmissions are 6 speeds with all forward speeds synchronized. I remember 2 speed and 3 speed automatics many years ago, now we have 8 speed and 10 speed automatics. Although there has been a steady decline in the availability of manual transmissions, there will always some manual transmission enthusiasts who will want a manual transmission.

just picked up a TKX for my 1970 El Camino. The one with the 2.87 first and a .68 fifth. Lucky me cause I guess these things are a little tough to get your hands on right now. Local speed shop here in Sacramento had several on hand. Easy installation. Installed on the floor of my garage with a floor jack, jack stands and a couple buddies. I have never felt another transmission that has such a perfect slotted feel throwing it into each gear. It's got a mighty strong spring throwing it into neutral too. Feels well worth the money. The old Trans was a Richmond Super T-10. Cars in the shop right now having the 373's replaced with 410's. With an LS6 454, the TKX, and now these 410's I'm sure its gonna be a wild ride.

The TKX will fit in a 69 Mach1 with Mild modifications. Just trim the top of the tunnel ring a little bit and then you can totally stuff it. Which really works nice on a lowered car. What a SWEET shifting transmission ! almost brings tears to my eyes !

i am a retired transmission rebuilder for the last 45 years. i have built 1000s of all of them. the T5 was put in, S10 pu trucks, mustangs, firebirds, Camaros, i have even built them in Nissan 300ZX, they were easy to build and i made a lot of $$ bread on

Have had a couple T5's behind a few SBC's in my FC rx7 Chassis and its done well as long as I didn't miss a shift, I finally found the real breaking point with 482whp and 565ft'lb. I still granny shifted it as light as I could but I believe she is cooked for good.. I am almost ready to order the TKX transmission as a beautiful upgrade to replace the well tested T5. Anyone who says a T5 is garbage probably misses alot of shifts.

Tremec could bring back the T45 with all these upgrades and higher torque handling.
Oh shit I didn't realize this was a Holley video till the end. Hell yeah, these guys moved way past just carburetors.

The main problem with the tko was the brass synchros werent enough for the mass of the gears. Now that thats been changed its pretty much perfect and i bet a lot more expensive too

Wish they had a 4X4 version that would go in my old Dodge Cummins

No mention of TQ handling capability of the TKX. Seeing what some guys are pushing, they seem to be underrated at 600.

Nobody mentioned that Jeep used T5s in the CJ. 3rd gear would blow out. I’ve built a bunch of them. Another POS was the Peugeot BA10. Weak knee’d piece of French junk. These used a rearward facing synchros and the locking sleeve is inside rather than sliding over the outside like most other transmissions. Shift gates were prone to breaking also.

Thanks for this informative video. I thought the T56 Magnum was my only upgrade option for my '99 Mustang Cobra.
