Nick just picked up this brand new Tremec tKX transmission from Modern Driveline! It's going into his 1965 Impala SS, replacing a modern overdrive transmission that he's been driving for several years. In this short unboxing style video, Nick give a little walk thorough of the new TKX, what to consider if you're looking to upgrade into a manual transmission, and how to select the proper transmission for your modern pro touring muscle car.

Thank you Nick for the Shout-out, we're all excited to see the videos of your install on that sweet Impala. MDL is all about 3-pedal life here and helping customers just like you at Classic Nation. The TKX is the hot new next-gen 5-speed for sure! Looking forward to seeing rip through some gears.

First thing everybody who buys a TKO of a TKX transmission should do is remove the shifter plate and take some molybdenum based grease and grease the shifter end and the double springs that controls left and right motion of the shifter.

Just thinking that the internals will spray lube the upper half of the transmission is wishful thinking as the parts were bone dry and the trans is filled to proper capacity and properly angled too..

Doing this will make your transmission shift so unbelievably smooth and not so stiff feeling.Youll still feel where neutral is but NOT as much!!!

I put 5000 miles on my TKO600 and the spring tension on the shifter felt stiffer when engaging into first gear than 5th or reverse so I took off the shifter and found that lack of lube was causing my pressure washers to grind into the aluminum body of the shifter housing and causing the springs that control left and right motion to bind up inside each other due to being bone dry..

Whats not noticed with the eye is that the lug that attaches to the shifter has a slight angle to it when its seated correctly the angle is angled down towards the drivers side of the transmission so if you have to pull to the left a il more abnormally than you feel like you should be needing to do so this is what I was experiencing until I turned the cube thats attached to my shifter 180 degrees, greased the shifter rod that makes contact with the dogs, greased the springs and viola I now have a sweet shifting transmission...

I have an 81 GMC C3500 manual 4 speed and have been thinking about a T56 or TKX. Subbed. Thanks for documenting your work.

I’m generally a Ford guy. But good Lord that Impala is beautiful! I’d love to have one.

looks good. I am wanting to do that same trans in my 1970 F100. Currently installing an Old T-5 into my 65 F100 with Modern Drive Lines Conversion Cable kit for 61-66's. I will post a video soon.
rock on.

Wish they would have had this available when I put my tko in my 71 Chevelle so I would not have had to enlarge the transmission tunnel. Should be fun in your Impala.

Size is definitely a huge benefit over the T-56, that thing is nice and compact!

I have a TKO 600 with 4.10 rear gears. 1st gear seems a bit too low for me. I think I should go to 3.73 gears... I hope they solved the 2-3rd upshift issue... the synchros lock me out above 5k rpm. You have an awesome looking ride!

I bought a TKO a month before the tkx came out. Now I’m trying to get the TKO in a 69 cutlass with a 455. Converting auto to manual.

Does this transmission handle 4wd 3/4 ton big block power upgrades? if not what's recommended for big block manual 3/4 ton, my build will be based off the 454 80s Chevy truck platform. I just want to make sure it handles the weight of those old trucks an still lets me put power down, Thanks for any info.

Just the video I needed, I was on the fence T56 vs the TKX. I don’t need two over drives, I don’t want to chop that original 1955 trans tunnel and I like hour it uses a standard GM bellhousing. TKX here I come lol

Nice video! My TKX arrived earlier this week and I pulled the Muncie out this morning from my '68 Camaro. I purchased mine from Silver Sport Transmissions and they too are great! I'm looking forward to your install. Are you going with a mechanical clutch and traditional throw out bearing, or a hydraulic? I have a QP rear axle with a Ford 9" center section and am going to go with a 3.70 ring and pinion to work with the close ratio TKX...

Great video man! Patiently waiting for my tkx kit to arrive from sst for my 70 charger, I'm also coming from an auto trans so I'm stoked to see how the whole conversion kit for your car will compare to mine when it arrives
