My neighbour owns a Rottweiller, I think Rottweiller does remember faces, my first two encounters with his dog were two pleasant, after being trained by his owner, the big animal began to befriend me. One time when I was watching movie at my house, I spotted the guy was checking out my car on the driveway, guess what happened next? Rottweiller rushed over and scared him away...once again I need to mention I do not own this dog and this animal still protect my property. Thumbs up to this Rottweiller.

Lost my 11 year old German Shepherd earlier this year. He was amazing, my personal body guard. He was a fully trained guard dog who could tell the difference between a stranger who wasn’t a threat to me a a stranger who was a threat to me.
Truly amazing loving dog, gentle with my grandkids but woe and behold if he sensed someone posed a threat to me. Miss him so much…….

My cane corso female is the most protective dog I’ve ever had. I thought she was extremely stubborn and she refused to walk on a leash. I unleashed her to see how she’d do and she stays at my side when I walk, or in between my legs when I stop. She’s the only dog I’ve had that watches me like a hawk. She plays with the kids, and loves on my wife, but she’s always watching me for direction. This dog has made me look like I’m some professional dog trainer, but it’s not me, it’s all her and her DNA in my opinion

My father, born 1938, german like me, told me that iin his young years, many persons, who wanted their house protected, owned two dogs. A large one to scare human intruders, and a small one, to wake up the large one.

Thank you for giving me the breed we have. We rescued an XL American bully a couple years ago. She was left in an apt for 10 days without food and water. My daughter told me and we rescued her. She is 100 pounds and bonded with my husband, who had a stroke and has residual issues, and she LOVES her dad. She is so affectionate that she wants to be petted all the time. She sleeps with me in our bed with 2 other dogs, a pitt bull and my 9 year old Pomeranian. I didn't realize how protective she was until we were in car in parking lot. She was in back seat and when a person was getting into a car next to us, she gave such a low, surreal growl. It scared me. But she was looking at the person outside the car. She is the absolute best dog we have ever owned and gentle.... OMG I've never seen such a big dog be so loving and gentle with an infant. She loves my granddaughter so much. She would lay at her feet of pack and play and watch over her. Now 2 years old and even with us saying be soft with Sadie, our dog, there are times she pets too hard or plays rough and Sadie does nothing but take it. She watches her outside and walks the perimeter of yard and just loves her.

Our Rottweiler would always place himself in front of our toddler, stand stiff legged and just stare at the front door if anyone knocked or rang the doorbell. Nobody was going to get close to his baby unless he approved. He was such a gentle loving dog who would've gladly gave his life if he needed to. Miss him terribly.

I owned i kangal since he was 2 months old.
Used to take him to park nearby our house when he was just a pup.
One day when we were out (200m away from home) he suddenly ran back towards our house and when i took i look i saw my cousin was walking to our house for a visit. The pup made it first to our house and barked so fiercely aty cousin. Thats when i knew that we got ourselves an incredible guard dog. No training for guarding or attacking at all.
He hospitalized 3-4 thieves until our neighborhood got concerned as he grew bigger and bigger and gain reputation of a killer. We got concerned too cause lot of people became interested and our dog became kinda like a tourism thing that everyone who had heard of him would want to see this terrifying guard dog that everyone's talking about. Some where coming to our house only to poke him and see his reaction behind the fence. We got concerned and relocated him to our farm where wolves were the doing lots of damage to our sheeps. We didn't wanna make him a sheepdog in that dangerous area but had no choice. He died of old age and no sheep was harmed during his time in the farm.
I can't express how i miss him. Run Free my wonderful Douglas. Simply can't forget him after almost 20 years

Always had large dogs. Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Doberman, Newfoundland and last a Bullmastiff. All of them were fantastic with kids, family, friends and other dogs. We tried very hard to socialise them to every situation.
But the Bullmastiff. He was exceptional! Kindest, gentlest dog I’ve ever known. He knew his size and acted accordingly. He was a peace keeper. If dogs actually fought in a park… he’d bulldoze in, head down, mouth closed and butt the offender. Just stand there proud, I’m in charge!
He saved my cousin from a crazed Staffy. More importantly he saved us from a hammer wielding thug who broke into our home. He threw himself at that guy like an animal possessed.
Not had a dog since. Nothing could replace that guy. I can’t speak for the breed. But he was 1 in a million!

Back in the Mid 1980s I owned a Neapolitan Mastiff. His name was NERO he was what they called a dilute blue (brindle) color. He looked like a marble statue. One of only 29 in North America at the time. Both his parents were from Italy. He ribboned in every IKC dog show. Winning best of breed once. He was very intelligent, emotional, loving and a natural protector. He was easy to socialize but if anyone approached me and I didn't say hello, he wouldn't let them within 10 feet of me. If they took a step any closer he was as ferocious as any wild animal you could imagine. An amazing dog. I miss him. He almost made it to 8 years-old. God bless NERO

Raised dogs all my life. Best one I ever had was a Boerboel. She was very quiet and laid back, until she needed not to be. Very intuitive. Took silent commands

Rottweilers. I love all working class dog breeds, but my favorite is Rottweilers. I've had them for 32 years. They always have your back no matter what, you have to respect that.

Best guard dog I ever had was a mutt. Yes a mutt, he was chow, black lab, sharpei, and husky. Don’t underestimate the mutt, sometimes they are more than the sum of their parts, and will go to the mat for their persons.

I had a bull mastiff. What a fantastic dog. Fiercely loyal, but a goofball and a lover boy. We had him for 13 years and miss him every day.

I’m glad you put Presa Canario on the list. My first presa who I still have, has saved me on numerous occasions from getting attacked by other dogs and was there for me when I first got out the Army and was losing it a bit mentally.
