We had a Standard Schnauzer. She was the most amazing protector of my Partner and Kids right from the moment we got her. If you went anywhere near them with anything other than kind intentions you'd get bit, even just playing, if she thought you were a threat, you wouldn't be for long. She could read people better than any human I've ever met. She was a wonderful dog in so many ways.

I had a Shepherd mix that just wandered up to our gate when I was a teenager. He was so smart and gentle but nobody would come into our yard without permission. The meter man used to read the meter over the fence with a telescope.

I have a American Bulldog, White Boxer mix 120 pounds who saved a family of three little girls, their dad, and their medium sized dog who went on a vicious attack from a huge Doberman as they entered the dog park. My dog in a split second stood up the dobie getting in front of the family, and was dodging his face biting like two bears then slammed dobie to the ground standing over him. My dog made the news and local parade. He is the sweetest dog and especially around kids. Almost every night he is chasing coyotes out of the yard.

can confirm my old line German Shepard could sleep all day but as soon as we are out of the door he is a ball of energy... he loves kids however is very suspicious towards strangers especially at night... mine is not trained as protection dog but he doesn't need to because he will protect even without training...

I've owned a male doberman, female GSD and currently have a male & female cane corso. I've never needed or wanted these dogs as protection animals, only as pets and members of my family but have always enjoyed the large breeds. I honestly believe there's more variation in the temperament and aggression within individual breeds than between them.

Many years ago I went to the shelter and got what I was told was a puppy black lab, looking at his squared head I was skeptical about the breed but the wife and kids loved him on sight. I was right, he was a pitty-lab mix weighing a slender 95Lbs. I always knew dogs are what you train them to be. He was the most gentle dog with kids I’ve seen and Extremely protective of his kids. I’ve had 4 pitty mixes since and they’re all big babies. Glad my wife gave me her veto years ago.

Cane Corso, is an amazing breed. Our boy is fabulous with kids. A giant marshmallows ❤❤❤ never have any fears with our boy around he would lay his life on the line for his family. Incredible loyal Velcro dog.

Was looking for a GS dog. 🐾 Then I saw some Rottie pups. ❤ I went with my Rottweiler. Love him. He’s extremely stable, polite and at 8 months - pretty good on obedience. Loves chickens and cats. Great with kids! Just has separation anxiety ❤😢🐾🐾😘

I didn't get any security footage of the thief breaking into our garage where they found my ovcharka waiting on them but I did have a great angle on them running for their life away from the garage. Dog never left the garage as they didn't get the door open wide enough. The thief practically floated out the driveway.

I've raised GSD'S my entire life. They are the best, and yes, I am just a little biased. Truthfully, they are so smart, quick to train, love their family, etc. I don't like the shedding, but it's just a part of them. Well worth it!
I also rescue dogs, and my shepherds take them all in as family. My dogs are very secure, and if I bring an insecure dog into my pack, it does not take long for them to not feel threatened and see that they're all loved and cared for. It's an awesome sight. I've taken in miniature schnauzer, great danes, rottweilers, mixed breeds, etc. And 3 cats, lol, not a cat person, but they needed help.
Pick your dog wisely, and be sure to train and socialize them.

OMG the grey GSD got me into tears, he/ she reminds me of my GSD in the 80s. And she was a police dog too, worked with her to IPIII and won several tournaments with her. I'm so blessed to had her in my life. Because I live on an apartment, I decided to adopt a dog from Eastern Europe, he got a lot from a terrier and a shepherd with pointing ears. It's a small to middle size, but his teeth are way bigger than you think, so I think they used the dogs for hunting on rats. He is much faster than my GSD, so I have to watch if he doesn't see cats.

I have a german sheperd male who is a real bodyguard...i can go out even in the middle of night with him and i'm sure no one comes close....but at the same time he is very calm and affectionate at home, he is super intelligent and attentive, i love him! Grew up with German Shepherds. My family always had them and my grandparents even bred them ages ago in Eastern Europe. I'm about to get an all-black fully certified DDR. I've got second pick of the litter (most of the pups are solid black). Can't wait! It's been 10 years since I had a GSD.
