My family's first big dog was a rottweiler. She was given to us by my aunt who only ever left her tied in the backyard. My mother was beside herself with fear. She worried the dog would kill me or one of my little brothers (4 boys ages 2-13). That dog, Bella, - rest her soul- was the best dog we ever had. Hands down. she was smart. So sweet with us. Tolerant. Easily trained. Obedient. Never jumped. Never bit or growled at us. And hardly EVER barked. She scared the piss out of me when she did bc it was like we forgot she was even capable. And it was so loud and so scary that my mother slept better than ever knowing she was there to watch our home. If Bella was barking, you went outside to check.

I had a Rottie who was absolutely devoted to me until I shared a hotel room with my supervisor for a work project and her 4 year old soon. All of my Rottie’s attention was focused on making sure that little boy was safe and sound.

I chose a Rottweiler as my medical and mobility service dog, I can’t imagine life without him. He carries or pulls heavy things for me, dragging forty pounds of stove pellets inside is such a huge help and he loves to do it. He is gentle, eager, intelligent and incredibly perceptive. He absolutely adores kids, and his best friend is our Shihtzu. I couldn’t have imagined two dogs who are so different to become so close, Baron always looks out for little Vader, and they always sleep in a pile. Baron is also hilarious, he’s obsessed with flowers, and it’s become a little embarrassing when your male Rottweiler begs you to buy him a bunch of roses in the grocery store.😂

I don't know your experience, but my Doberman was basically my brother when I was growing up. Strong, smart, protective and loyal.

I was raised by whole life with Rottweilers in the house and it’s incredibly how they have such a natural protection for children, I’ve never felt safer as a kid then when my Rottweilers were with me

Shepherds are the best and smartest dogs available. When I die, I want to go where my shepherd is.

I have a female Rottie. She is my service dog. From the very beginning she has picked up on things about my disability that actually took me weeks to understand why she was doing certain behaviors. She also knows when her "vest" is on she is working, and she is totally different when it is off.
I would be completely home bound if I didn't have her.

I've owned several breeds of dog, but there is one in particular that will ALWAYS be by my side... Rottweiler. Protective, loving, smart, strong and humbling. I can't say enough good things about them.

I'm in love with GSDs. I have one, and he's the greatest pet i ever had.

I would advise seeking professional help with training if you pick one as your first dog.

They're extremely loyal and loving to their pack, but that can easily translate to reactivity and resource guarding if they aren't socialized properly.

Also, they're pullers and chasers if not properly leash trained. You have to learn how to snap and maintain their focus on you through positive reinforcement and games. Even the show lines still have a working dog soul within them. Have to keep them busy, or they will find their own jobs

My daughter has had 3 Rottweilers. I absolutely loved every single one. Only problem was their exstreme protectiveness toward her children. Don't yell at them, and never ever put your hands on them when the dog is present. They will stop you. And that is an absolute. Doesn't matter what your relationship is, children will be protected.

Grew up around these breeds and their mixes, definitely true.
Probably the best part about rotties and rott mixes is the goofy sounds they make. Just friendly growling constantly. Pet them? Growling. Okay with them? Growling. Come and greet them? Also growling. Those dogs are probably the only reason I can tell friendly from unfriendly growl (for the most part)

My grandfather kept a Rottweiler when my mother was young. I never had the pleasure of meeting Keeper, but by all accounts he was a fine, gentle dog who loved the children above all else.

I still get all teary when I remember my beautiful Ophelia. Rottweilers are the most loving (and stinkiest!) things.

I would also recommend Great Danes, just keep an eye on them around small children as they may knock them over, they are basically giant loving lap dogs lol

I had a Rottweiler that my family got when I was 6 months old!!
He was the goodest of boys, I miss you Hans. He lived to the ripe age of 12 and a half years old.
