Is Football Getting Boring?

If you got to watch football in the 90s and early 2000s, then you’re one of the really lucky ones, because these days, football seems to be losing everything that made it so entertaining back then. This might be difficult for many to accept because of how much love they have for the game, but the fact here is – football is getting boring!

"Today everyone plays in a 4-4-2 or 4-3-3, every kid wants to become a no.10 but that position doesnt exist anymore no coash wants playmakers anymore, they only want fast players who can sprint through 1v1s" - James Rodriguez ( The last real no.10 )

I totally agree with this video. The beautiful game is getting too soft, uninteresting and overly controlled with silly rules by ppl who are not playing…

the main problem is they are treating every single player as a piece of meat, not supporting a player in their hard times. and trying to sack managers and players when they are not giving their best.
football is becoming a business- these words are said by CR7.

One thing I feel like football is getting boring is back then players would take the risk shooting outside the box. Doesn't matter is it's to curve, to much power or anything, it feels exciting to watch if they goal or not. That's my opinion

we have to appreciate players like lisandro martinez. Probably the only guy who isnt afraid to do tackles

Football is also changing from players’ perspective. Young players are punished for showing off skills, coaches are not tolerant towards taking a risks. Therefore we are losing long shots and skills showboating, which made fotball a bit more exciting to watch.

I Agree with Goal90 that football is actually getting boring each day. A day i almost stopped watching it was because of this VAR blunders in the premier league.

I was one of the lucky ones to have watched football, cricket, and tennis in the 90s and the early 2000s.

I'm especially noticing this in this Eurocup. Matches are so boring and slow, and there's no a single soul trying to do something different.

It's not football that becoming boring, It's the toxic fans on social media and the new rules making the game boring and unauthentic.

Unpopular Opinion: The appeal of football began to wane for many when Pep Guardiola assumed the role of Barcelona's head coach. This shift is often exemplified by the memory of Barcelona's dramatic Champions League victory over Chelsea, which left many English fans feeling aggrieved. Personally, as an Italian, I found great joy in Chelsea's triumph in 2012, despite my national allegiance.

One of the reasons for this diminishing allure in modern football is the prevalence of seemingly endless, and at times, seemingly futile, passes. The beautiful game's essence has seemingly eroded as a result. The elegance of simplicity and the thrill of well-executed, direct play have been overshadowed by an overabundance of possession-oriented tactics.

Moreover, a sense of predictability has settled over the sport. A select few top-tier teams consistently dominate the competition year after year, rendering the outcome almost predetermined. This creates an atmosphere of monotony, where fans often anticipate the same teams reaching the pinnacle of success. This lack of diversity in champions can detract from the excitement and unpredictability that once defined football's magic.

In conclusion, the perception that football has lost its charm due to these factors is indeed an unpopular opinion, but it reflects the sentiments of many who long for the days when the sport was celebrated for its diversity, simplicity, and the sheer unpredictability of each match.

I’m a lifelong American football fan I also enjoy futbol but when you go from watching a NFL game to a premier league, la liga, or champions league game you can’t help but notice NFL players pretend they are fine when they have serious injuries and Futbolers pretending to be hurt when they are perfectly fine it makes me change the channel

Now on every team, there are same type of robotic players with similar qualities as if they were made in a lab. Teams are usually made up of thin, athletic build players who run fast back and forth and that's it. The amount of money they're paid is insane. If, for example, Ruud Van Nistelrooy played now, he'd be worth over 500 million euros.

You're correct, football has become boring compared to what it was. The money ruined the sport.

It is getting boring really. And there is also another thing. Back in the day you had multiple clubs that were almost equal and so lot of fighting for title races. Now, at the very best, you have only 3 teams in the league, a lot of leagues are even 1 horse races. And even in CL the reality is that every year there are about 5 favourites who can win it, while the others are just competing and maybe making 1 miracle, but have no chance to win it. Some clubs are getting rediculously rich and killing all competition.
And you´re very right about the fouls and penalties. Every touch nowadays is penalty. No matter if its just a touch on the arm. And all those divings are just killing it for me. It has gotten to the point that I can´t even celebrate my favourite team if they are doing it. Not to mention all the corrupt teams or even FIFA themselfs. Corruption here, corruption there, FFP for one, but not for other.
It has become a business at this point. I´m not even sure how many of the winners in those last years are legitimate and how many won unfair. Every year there is scandal for at least 2-3 big teams and not to mention all those penalties for Argentina or red cards/penalties in Barca matches till about 10 years ago or those Real Madrid offside goals in CL in the 3 in row campaign and so on. They aren´t even hiding it sometimes. Just streight into your face are backing a team or name and then blame you for hater because you can´t accept their double standards.
