I think Alan Shearer explained it well. Football players have become less about being good footballers and more about good athletes. Your pretty much have to be a robot. Have good physical, and decent aim and not actually be a good footballer. If you fit into the coach’s tactics, you’re good! It’s all about tactics (all Pep’s fault). Football is just robotic nowadays.

Reminds me of that old Nike cartoon in 2014

the only real issue with modern football is wingers always cutting back. But I personally like the rest of modern football

For me, international is more entertaining mainly because is is less about tactics and more about talent

i agree with you that games are way more boring but i think that wingers (in general not specifically) havent droped in quality but the real issue is the eye test for the player is dogshit boring, becuz the coaches dont want any chaos anymore. i think the only way we will get any flashy dribblers back is if get another neymar type. pep guaordiola has said this before, he said that he would only give freedom to players like messi or kdb but he would also make them the most efficcient players aswell or something like that. so what im trying to say is that we will have to wait for, not only a generational player, but a player who is atleast in the goat conversation to see beautiful players.

That's why I'll never call the prem the best league in the world. Even with their b-squads real and barca would put on a more entertaining match every time

the average game might be but the top 6 games is really like a game of chess with all the tactics

But today's Liverpool vs man u was great ....and previously most of the matches between man u and Liverpool were great to watch but the entertainment factor is now too low when it comes to football. When it comes to the 90s and 2000s football was very entertaining maybe less technical compared to now but still entertaining.

I've got a different view on the matter, its not the attacking players that have lost quality but its the defences that have become better. ive been having this thought ever since ive seen these "avg" players train or warmup. even the players on "mediocre" teams are really more technically skilled than you expect. but the evolution of defence is on another level, now more than ever attacking players are willing (forced) to contribute off the ball, and defensive structure isnt just limited to elite teams anymore bcus of the resources that enable any manager to access any information or knowledge. its a cat and mouse game and itll be interesting to see where football will go from here

football is becoming so boring why, pundits always criticize players who showboat and display some flashy beautiful dribbles labelling them disrespectful to opponents, you can not be playing a mechanical game and expect fans to like the sport, media and pundits are also among the people making football boring

I’m biased but this is why Fergie is the goat. Wasn’t as big of a tactician as Pep for sure, but his goal was to entertain the fans and he did just that also while winning. I know football has evolved immensely since then but with that evolution it seems like it’s gotten robotic. Maybe I’m just rambling, I dunno

I grew up watching euro games on itv wed night. It was terrific. I dont see much now as it mostly behind pay wall when i do i know none of players and its just not entertaining any more as tactics have change so much and falling over as got so much worse. It what it is now and i have moved on and no longer bothered about it

Took a sport that used to be about skills. And turned it into a bunch of juiced up 6:3ft knuckle heads who sprint around, then make it a tip tap sport where one slightest touch sees them go to the ground like they've been shot. The two sides of that don't mix, also the magic was driven out for making more money out of it.

Changed with Mourinho who would almost coach the talent out of flair attacking players like Joe Cole and make them very defensive minded.

Although i agree that wingers are no longer as flashy as old wingers but that doesn't mean the standard has dropped, People like to act like wingers before used to change the game every time they played which isn't true, it's a nostalgia effect that has to be stopped, i recently watched a video titled "The Curious Case of Virgil Van Dijk" which explained it perfectly.

It's not judt that the quality of players has DECLINED MASSIVELY back in the day you had like five six world class players in everu team now you have like barely FIVE WORLD CLASS PLAYERS IN THE WORLD vini mbappe bellingham haaland ( Who is rarely that ) Then who ? Remember Godin Chilleni Bonnuci Puyol Ramos Pepe Casillas Muller Buffon Robben Ribery Lewagoalski etc ? Yh the golden days and the fact that van djik is the best defender rn in the world says it all Haaland too ? What are we doing it's just not the same
