Hey friends! I finally mustered up the mental strength to share why I decided to stop shopping, and pursue a Low Buy Year for the year of 2019. I was inspired and motivated to do this by Dave Ramsey, and YouTubers Aja Dang and Hannah Lousie Poston.

This video was getting long, so I will be breaking it down into a little series. This one goes into the Top 5 Tips to Stop Shopping. Later I will get into the Rules I have for myself before I buy anything, and do more videos on topics that I've been ethically struggling with like accepting PR packages as part of my blogging job, for example.

Have you been inspired to do a No Buy or Low Buy? How do you stay on track? Let me know in the comments!

ABOUT ME:🌿
Hi, I'm Christina - I'm a blogger slash vlogger slash human on the internet slash pharmacist sometimes, hence the "apothecary" theme in my name. I'm currently living in Toronto, Canada and on my channel you'll find fashion and styling videos, lifestyle content and check-in's on my LOW BUY YEAR. I'm happy to take any requests, too! Your girl is flexible (not physically). Feel free to leave me a comment below - I always make sure to read and respond, and I love chatting with you guys. Be sure to follow me on Instagram too - that's where I post my daily outfits and photography, and where I interact with you guys the most. Thank you SO much for watching and taking the time out of your day to support my teeny little channel. Love xx, Christina.

I find it so respectful when one you tuber gets ideas from another and takes a second to credit that person!

I'm on a no-buy for the entire year. Exceptions are: food, meds and household consumables (detergent, vacuum bags, etc). Half way through, I feel very light and free. I don't care about frivolous shit anymore, like I've completely lost interest in keeping up with all of the new things. I have more time and energy so I started reading books again, which I haven't been able to do for the last I dunno ten years..? I can't imagine going back to my old ways. Just wish I had done this for myself a lot sooner. Thanks for a great video. ❤

Instead of "I am a shopping addict, " maybe say "I am a recovering shopping addict." I think it helps convince your brain you're recovering. 😀

My mantra is that whatever the amount of clothes I have, I can only wear one outfit at a time.

Unsubscribing is definitely a game changer. When I want to but something I transfer the amount to my savings or acorns account. It feels just as good as buying something I didn’t need

I’m only 8 minutes in and all of a sudden I want to return all of my recent purchases and cleanse my life LMAO

After only five minutes of watching I really love and respect this woman for being SO HONEST about herself! We can all learn from this, not only tho shop less, but also learn from her skills of self reflection. Being truly honest to ourselves is the way to change our lives for the better.

I have savings but I should have a lot more than I do. I seem to feel the need to just buy anything in order to cure my bordem and I need to stop. I don't even need most of the stuff I buy.

I finally figured out that there is no end to 'things', and what I already have is more than enough. So I just stopped buying 'stuff' and I'm alright, lol.

Thank you for this video! I am actually at the other end of the spectrum, an extreme minimalist. I don’t even have a bed. I sleep on a yoga mat. It’s hard for me to spend money even on basic things (like clothes!) that I need. So, this year I’ve allowed myself to buy good quality basics. Nothing trendy or fast fashion. I feel extreme consumerism and extreme minimalism are both ends of the same spectrum and caused by the same emotion: fear. Fear of missing out or fear of spending money. Both indicate a lack of trust. It’s fascinating to see how we all relate differently to things. Love your channel! ~Sarah

I shop at the thrift store and find designer clothes that look like they've never been worn. After losing 32 pounds, that was how I built my wardrobe for less money.

My furniture, kitchenware, linens and clothes are more than 25 years old. I take good care of everything I have. Everything is still like new. Happily retired.

Christina, we each have our demons to overcome. Over the past two years, I have been successful in gradually overcoming a sugar and binge eating addiction which resulted in my weight topping out at 296 pounds. Now, I am tackling my finances, and you have inspired me to begin 2020 in no-buy/low-buy mode. Thank you for your honesty which is helping so many people! Best wishes!

I find it so refreshing that you actually call yourself shopping addict and not trying to look for excuses and reasons somewhere else. I’m same. I started thinking more rationally towards end of last year. My situation is a bit different, I don’t have many good basics in my wardrobe because my wardrobe is full of crap. So now I limit myself to only buying basics that I absolutely need and only of good quality and fabrics. And I hardly buy anything or feel an urge to go shopping. Good luck and keep inspiring us!,

My parents used to give me 20 or 40 dollars each month and i would spend it all in like a week without any concern. Even if i didn't needed anything i would feel the need to buy something just to get rid of the money, now that i started my first job and earn money by myself i dont want to waste a single penny. I dont know what happened lol. I want to save money for no reason really, im 17 so i still live with my parents and i have no responsibilities to pay. Im Saving every paycheck and not waste anything until i get out and move out hopefully in like 2-3 years.
